We booked a coach tour, but since we were the only people to book this shore excusion, we had a private driver for the same price as the coach tour. He met us at customs, took our luggage to his car and drove the scenic route to Stonehenge through a beautiful national park with wild horses. He provided interesting commentary and was delightful company. He got us to Stonehenge before the first tour buses arrived and told us to take as much time as we wanted. After Stonehenge, we had a very pleasant drive into London, he drove us right in front of Buckingham Palace, and dropped us off at our hotel. Thank you so much for this incredible customer service.
You are better off watching TV shows or films and photographs. You will see much more. You cannot get within two to three hundred feet of anything at this location. It is
completely fenced off and you can walk around the site but see nothing that cannot be seen in photographs. There are several TV shows that show this up close and you will see much more than going to the location. The trip from our ship to our hotel with a stop off at Stonehenge was fine. The bus was waiting for us when we got off the ship and took us straight to our hotel with the stop off at Stonehenge for a couple of hours. The stop at Stonehenge could be eliminated. It was a waste of time and what I would call a tourist trap, as one sees nothing up close. Most photographs will show more detail. There were hoards of people here, which I imagine is all of the time. I am sure that many will disagree and want to stop here. Bath would be a much better stop, but the only one the service offered was to stop at Stonehenge and Bath and it would have taken 8 hrs to get to ones hotel or longer. I had been to Bath already and it is much more interesting than Stonehenge. I had visited Stonehenge some years ago and you could get much closer and see markings on the stones. I understand why it has to be this way as people had chipped rocks off of the stone, marked up the stones, and generally vandalized everything. Our bus driver was very efficient and friendly.
