What You Can Expect
After pickup from your hotel in Cabo San Lucas, venture by coach along the coastal highway on a 2-hour ride to La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur. With the Baja California Desert on one side of the road and the Pacific Ocean on the other during the beginning of the journey, the gorgeous views provide great photo opportunities.
Enjoy a boxed breakfast aboard the bus, including a croissant, energy bar, fruit and juice.
When you arrive in La Paz, meet on the fine white sand of Tecolote Beach, where you’ll be suited with a lifejacket and snorkel gear. Then board a panga boat for a 1-hour ride in the brilliant Sea of Cortez (also known as the Gulf of California) to Epiritu Santo Island, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its diverse marine life.
First, stop at the Sea Lion Colony, where dozens of sea lions sun themselves on the rocks year-round. You’ll have 30 minutes to explore, swim or snorkel around, entertained by the sea lions’ slick maneuvers in the clear, turquoise water.
Afterward, take a boat ride around the amazing island as you head to another, more secluded snorkeling site. Your guide will set up a table and umbrella on the beach, with a delicious self-serve lunch of fish ceviche and tuna salad.
Here, you can swim in the crystal-clear water and snorkel along a shallow coral reef, or just relax on the pristine beach for the afternoon. Keep an eye out for dolphins and other marine mammals. Depending on the season, you can see gray or humpback whales, and you might even spot a giant and gentle whale shark!
Returning by bus, stop en route in the lovely town of Todos Santos, a desert oasis and artists’ haven. Here, you can shop for local crafts or just check out the local color before transport back to your hotel in Cabo San Lucas.
