We really enjoyed our days in Madrid, the Madrid Card came very handy. We have great memories from Madrid, it is a palace itself.

The Hop on Hop off bus was worthwhile to get a feel for the city and its attractions. We got the 2-day pass. One to see the city and the second day to hop off and tour the sights and museums.

The Madrid Card has so much to offer. There is no way that you can do one-tenth of it in a 24-hour period. For 48 or 72 hours the card is well worth its price.

Great idea, unfortunately we didn't take full advantage of its benefits.

The hop-on-off bus was convenient and we enjoyed touring Madrid. It is expensive and you need to make the most of the time available on the card. One evening we really enjoyed just riding on the blue line at dusk. It was nice to see the lights of the city turn on. Unfortunately, we went to more than 5 places listed as open in the book which in fact were closed. Therefore, we wasted a lot of valuable time that we could have been seeing other sites.

I found the Madrid bus to be awful. The ticket taker did not explain the route or the stops, and the bus driver and guide on bus generally nattered to each other rather than help customers. However, I did encounter 2 young girl guides who where helpful. The ticket office at Prado Museum was rude--I was trying to find the entrance and where to use the card, and they shifted me around for at least 20 minutes. Asked an American lady to explain in Spanish for me eventually. At Real Palace Madrid, staff again extremely unpleasant. At the church opposite the palace, the guy taking tickets was no more polite.
Went for meal at a restaurant recommended in the Madrid Card book. The food was terrible--tasteless prawns, paella more rice than seafood, and everything overpriced. I complained 3 times; manager pretended not to understand and shrugged. I would never recommend!
It was physically impossible to use the card to its best advantage. It's simply not possible to take advantage of enough of the discounts in the time available. There are lots of tourists in town in May, so that getting around was time consuming, often there were queues for attractions and long wait times. The on off tourist bus was a good way to get around to the attractions.

There should be prices and opening hours for every sight in the guide!

Never could find the airport location to pick up the card, but the trip to the Plaza Mayor was quite an adventure. Impossible to use card to its full potential.

We did not know that there are actually two cards, the Madrid Card and the Cultural Madrid Card. We were given the cultural card and had to pay to use the sightseeing bus. Be careful about what card you are given. Also, finding the location to pick up the cards in Madrid airport is tricky. It took us about 40 minutes to get them. Maybe the other location is better.

If you do not speak Spanish, it will be almost impossible to find where you can pick up the card. Then, the card did not work properly so I had to go back to have it replaced.

Could not find the pickup location in the airport and walked around Madrid to find the second pickup location closed.

The Madrid Card is good if you want to visit endless museums, otherwise don't bother.
