What You Can Expect
After admiring the cathedral’s interior and learning about its enchanting Gothic architecture, continue to the Alcázar of Segovia, a fairy tale fortress and the city’s star attraction. Make your way past the entrance lines with your skip-the-line ticket, and step inside the 12th-century structure with your guide. Learn about its history as you walk around inside and soak up the panoramic vistas of the snowcapped peaks of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains.
Reboard your coach and travel to the town of Ávila, birthplace of St Teresa and one of Europe’s best-preserved walled cities. Stretch your legs on a skip-the-line tour of the ancient medieval walls, admiring the towers dotted along the route, and then enjoy up to an hour of free time for lunch (own expense). Meet back up with your guide for a tour of Ávila Cathedral, followed by a visit to the Museum of St Teresa, housed in the building where the saint is believed to have been born.
In late afternoon, travel to your final stop in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, just outside Madrid, and head inside its legendary UNESCO-listed monument: the El Escorial monastery. The regal building is the historical residence of the King of Spain, and its vast space is home to a basilica, the Pantheon of the Kings royal mausoleum, and countless paintings by European greats such as El Greco. See the highlights on your third skip-the-line tour, and then step outside to discover gardens, orchards and fields — all maintained by the monastery’s Augustinian monks.
Finally, relax on the short journey back to the start point in central Madrid where your day trip finishes.
It was an excellent deal to be able to see so much (2 heritage Towns, 1 heritage Monastery) in one day, It's impossible to do that on your own. We saw the highlights of everything, it was fantastic. There were 4 of us in my family, if we visited these places on our own it would take 2 days and would cost us more and would not be as relax. The tour guide, Alberto was excellent and very knowledgeable, the tour bus was very comfortable, it stopped at the right spots for us to take pictures.
Love this tour so much! Thank you!
