What You Can Expect
Travel aboard an air-conditioned coach with large windows, great for sightseeing, as you listen to expert narration from your friendly and knowledgeable guide. Spend about an hour in Iao Valley and learn how it was the site of a bloody battle in 1790 where King Kamehameha conquered Maui. Then, check out the Iao Needle, a 1,200-foot (366-meter) stone pinnacle commemorating the battle.
Next, head to the historic town of Lahaina. Spend a few hours at your leisure in this quaint whaling town exploring the various shops and visiting the museums and historic sites. Stop at a restaurant for lunch (own expense) before returning to your Maui hotel.
We were picked up late but after that all was well. Our guide was very nice and informative. The tour was beautiful and I would recommend it to my friends.
We enjoyed the Iao Valley and the town of Lahaina, but don't know that we learned as much of Hawaii's history as the description of the activity led us to believe we would. The guide focused on the native flora we saw along our drive and spent significant time pointing out medical centers, shopping centers, and discussing the cost of living on Hawaii. He was not particularly warm and, in fact, welcomed us with a "why didn't you sign up for the morning trip to Haleakala that was part of this tour?"
