Read what other Viator.com travelers think about the Kahului Shore Excursion: Haleakala Crater Adventure Tour. What they loved, what they liked and what they think could be improved, it's all here to help you make the most of your next trip.
The trip was operated by the major Hawaiian tour company, using a first class coach, picking up/dropping off at the same place as the cruise ship's own tour. It also did the same itinerary but at a vastly reduced price! Unfortunately, the weather was wet and cloudy up to 7,000 feet but above that we were in sunshine and, at 10,000 feet, the crater looked like your publicity photo.
We found the Driver's running commentary on the sights (including those we could barely see), the landscape and geology very informative and, at times, hilarious. He deserved full marks.
Amazing views of the crater and the island. Don't forget to bring a jacket, there were people walking around in summer shirts and they were very cold.
The excursion was enhanced by the tour director. His knowledge and manner were excellent. Though the weather did not cooperate we were still able to experience the awesomeness of the crater.
This was a great tour! Our driver was very pleasant and knowledgeable! We had an awesome view that day, it was truly spectacular! Would not miss the Haleakala Crater and certainly glad we left the driving to the bus driver! Its a challenging road to the Haleakala Crater! Thank you, Alyssa and Don.
Excellent trip, fascinating scenery, all thoroughly enjoyable. Some of the views could have been Mars!
Kahului is on the island of Maui. We used Roberts Hawaii for our tour as it is cheaper than the tours provided by our cruise ship Pride of America. We went to the same places as the other tours. Haleakala Crater is an old volcanoe crater. The view was great. We visited a coral factory. The tour bus driver was informative and friendly.
Enjoyed the trip even if it was a long drive to the top of the mountain crater.
Unfortunately it I was totally overcast at the top so we could not see anything and even with warm sweaters and jackets it was very cold at the visitor information place. Fortunately inside the building was good shelter from the strong, cold wind. My companion had seen this crater in November and was so impressed that she wanted to see it again. She was even more disappointed than I because she knew how fabulous it could be!
