What You Can Expect
The first stop will be Molokini Crater, a partially submerged, volcanic islet with exceptional visibility. On most days, you’ll be snorkeling in calm, protected waters that teem with thousands of reef fish, and where visibility can often be as good as 100 feet. As a Marine Life Conservation District, Molokini is home to over 250 species of tropical fish, and you never know when you could spot an octopus or harmless white tip reef shark.
Once you’ve finished snorkeling and are relaxing back on board, you’ll cross the channel to the Makena shoreline of Maui’s southern coast—an area that’s known for its large population of endangered Hawaiian Green sea turtles. As the boat’s stairs are lowered in the water, scan the area for green and brown shells that look like floating rocks, or watch for their bald, rounded heads to emerge for a quick gulp of air. When you eventually find one underwater, casually observe their fluid motions and grace as they swim across the reef.
All of the necessary equipment for snorkeling is provided along with this tour, as are flotation and optical masks that are complimentary to use. And, as you swim with schools of tropical fish and cruise the colorful reefs, a videographer will capture shots that are available for purchase on board.
Finally, in addition to snorkeling and swimming with sea turtles, this Maui snorkeling shore excursion also includes continental breakfast, as well as a filling, deli-style buffet that’s served on the way back to shore.
The trip to crater and then to turtle beach were both great snorkeling. Took lots of videos and pictures. Crew on ship were fun and helpful.
The entire day was great. We saw many whales, had great snorkeling and very nice lunch. The captain and staff were very informative and helpful.
Had a great time. Our first stop to Molokini crater was VERY crowded. There were about 8 boats at the reef and not much room to explore. We had to stay in a fairly small space. I actually got to see an octopus and a squid though, so that was way cool! Our second spot was not that special. I didn't see any turtles myself, although there were a few spotted. Lunch was really good. Hamburgers, hot dogs, with all the trimmings. Salad and veggies with fruit. The crew were all very attentive and helpful and friendly. I would give them a 5 plus, as well as the lunch. The reason I only gave it a 4 was because of how crowded it was. Definitely worth doing!
Snorkelling was as expected. Saw lots of turtles, lunch was wonderful. Crew was very helpful and informative.
