What You Can Expect

Central Melbourne Walking Tour

Flinders Street Station

Federation Square, locally known as Fed Square, is one of the most ambitious architectural designs in Australia and covers an entire city block in Melbourne’s Central Business District (CBD), blending both the cultural heritage of Melbourne with civic purpose. Here is where your city walking tour will commence, with a brief introduction to the history of Melbourne. Follow Melbourne’s timeline from the original indigenous landowners to the immigration and migrant policies of the 1970s that shaped and formed the fabric of Melbourne’s rich culture.

Wander through Melbourne’s famed laneways and embrace the urban soul of the city. From fashion to food, the laneways are home to emerging and well-known local craftsmen and artisans. Soak up the atmosphere created by the café scene, smell the aroma of coffee and spices, and see a variety of urban visual art projects dotted around the lanes.

Boasting an international event calendar that most cities would envy, Melbourne is home to a sporting fever that grips the city. See where battles have been won and lost on the field at the Melbourne Cricket Ground or on the tennis court at Rod Laver Arena. Hear the stories of the infamous Melbourne Cup, during which an entire nation stops to watch a horse race.

The walking tour is approximately 2.5-miles (4-kilometers) long and is at a leisurely pace. You’ll discover hidden gems and explore the city like a local.

Chris is an amazing guide. He approach is just the right balance of interesting stories and history. I would highly, highly recommend his tour. I also love that he is a one man operation, not a large company. Melbourne is his passion, and it comes thru. You will enjoy meeting him and spending time together.

Tour guide Chris was very friendly, very approachable and provided a huge amount of very interesting info - we live an hour out of Melb so are technically local but learned so much about our own city. Loved the details and stories of the alley ways, the arcades, the history and the architecture/buildings. It's amazing how we can walk around and not really see what's there until things are pointed out to us. Loved every bit of the tour. A complete package. Thanks

A great tour which took us throughout the city and the lane ways - this was my first time in Melbourne and I did the tour three hours after landing so it was a brilliant way to get an overview/history of the city.

Excellent afternoon with Chris. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour only sorry we had to peel off a bit early to catch our train. Will definitely bring other visitors in future and happily recommend the tour to friends and family. At around three hours, you cover a bit of ground but the walk is at an easy pace. Chris is knowledgeable and obviously loves his city. Thanks Chris. Karen and France August 2015
