My wife an I have done walking tours in many places in the world (mostly Europe). This walking tour was quite special. A LOT of walking but sites and knowledge above and beyond the 'standard' of walking tours. Highly recommended. My wife asked about buying opals and Dave's recommendation turned out to be exactly on point. We went back the next day to take advantage of that recommendation and then stopped by to thank Dave personally for sharing his city with us.
You learn A LOT in this tour that you would not otherwise. There is a lot of street art that is totally worth to check. Also, the guide makes it very fun and you even get a break to later keep walking.
Excellent guide. I though I knew a little about Melbourne.....I know so much more now!!! FANTASTIC
Great tour great guide nice weather on the day! Had fun and was able to come back to it and go into details cos he gave us a map later!
I learned more about Melbourne in just 2 hours than reading it elsewhere . The route was unique and you'll find things that you normally won't find under the normal tour
Loved it! I learnt so much about Melbourne that I never would have any other way.
What an enjoyable afternoon this was! Dave, our experienced and knowledgeable guide, took us to interesting laneways, buildings and sights at a comfortable pace with informed commentary and a laugh or two! We had a small group of 8 ranging from locals, to interstate and international visitors, which resulted in a really diverse range of conversations and interpretations of the city. We were quite impressed with Dave's ability to connect with each tour member and would highly recommend anyone considering a walking tour of Melbourne to do this one. Highly enjoyable, entertaining and informative. Thank you Dave!
I thoroughly enjoyed this walk ... well worth it. The guide was very knowledgeable and showed me parts of Melbourne I didn't know existed. Would recommend this walk for anyone who wants to see the Laneway Culture as well as gain an understanding of the history of Melbourne. Thumbs up!!!!
We did this tour a couple of days ago, on the day after arriving in Melbourne. It seemed like a good way to get familiar with the CBD given that out hotel is within it, and that we are here for the week.
From our starting point at Federation Square, we were taken down along the river side linear park, Birrarung Marr, with frequent stops to listen to a brief history of the city's foundation, the indigenous significance of the area and explanation of various point of interest. This was followed by a return to the southern streets of the CBD, a taste of the lane ways and cafe culture, the grandeur of the Block arcade and Collins St, and a stroll to the South Bank precinct before returning to Federation Square. There was also a stop to enjoy a coffee from one of the iconic sidewalk cafes that are ubiquitous here.
Our tour was very ably led by Gerry, a newly recruited guide in training under the watchful eye of Dave. Gerry was a wealth of information, and when he didn't know something, Dave was able to fill in the gaps. Both of them were very pleasant and easygoing and made us feel immediately at ease.
We enjoyed a very pleasant stroll and learnt heaps. We also got to some things we would easily have overlooked, such as the quirky street art and the hidden gems like the ANZ building that is the site of Melbourne's original stock exchange.
I strongly recommend this 3 hour walking tour to anyone who is recently arrived and wants to get their bearings, both geographically and culturally. It's also a nice way of occupying oneself for an afternoon, and the fee is very reasonable.
Dave was so knowledgeable and friendly, I highly recommend this tour to anybody visiting Melbourne!
We choose this trip based on previous reviews. Dave exceeded our expectations. He was happy and cheerful on an overcast and cold Melbourne afternoon. His knowledge meant we are now much better acquainted with the "inner workings" of the CPD. He also recommended we visit a Greek restaurant that was excellent.
An opportunity to see the alternative side of Melbourne that a typical tour group will not get to see, especially the street art of Melbourne, which takes a look at the creativity and expressiveness of Melburnians. Good sights, sounds and taste (the coffee is awesome!) of Melbourne, this is one tour that is worth your 3 hours around the city centre.
I have been to Melbourne before but on this visit I learnt things that even my friends didn't know about!!
New appreciation of street art as well as new places to come back and see. I really appreciated the history of the Yarra River.
When we visit a new place, we always take a familiarity tour. We have found that the best ones are walking tours and ours with David was no exception. David was very knowledgeable about many aspects of Melbourne and shared numerous interesting stories. His walking pace was appropriate and he made an effort to talk with each individual on the tour and call them by name. The tour was relaxed, but informative. When we first hit Melbourne, we thought it was just another big city. After the tour with David, we saw Melbourne's personality.
As we told David, it was the best value for our money since getting to Australia from Canada three weeks ago.
