The horseback winery tour was absolutely amazing and by itself, a tremendous value for the price. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly and professional, but more than simply leading a tour, they teach you about riding horses as you make your way to each winery.
While this aspect of the tour was exceptional, all tour activities were not exactly as described. After the horseback tour, we were shuttled to a very lovely lunch on a set menu, and then we rejoined another tour for chocolate tasting and the maze garden. Those activities were enjoyable, but one of the reasons I booked this package was the inclusion of a visit to the hot springs, which ultimately did not happen. The tour description mentions that there are different activities that take place based on seasonality, but it specifically mentioned the hot springs during winter months, and again, that did not happen. The tour group we left Melbourne with attended the hot springs in the morning while we were on the horseback winery tour, and thus, we did not get a chance to visit the hot springs once linking back up with the original tour.
The entire tour was very enjoyable, an amazing experience for my partner and I, but we were disappointed to find we could not attend the hot springs. I would highly recommend the tour, but would advise that not all activities in the description are guaranteed.
The transport company could be better organized. We had to wait for almost two hours to be picked up after our tour of the wineries.
Would highly recommend this tour who is looking for a quick escape from the city while hoping to get some good R and R. Kudos to the friendly staff at the wineries, bunyip tours and my horse, Boris, for carrying me safely between wineries!!
I'd actually rate this 4.5. We had a very small group of 5, which was great. Our guide, Kyle from Bunyip Tours, was terrific. Very energetic and encouraging, he got involved in our activities and had many great tips and advice for us. He was my favorite tour guide of 4 group tours that I scheduled on my trip to Australia. As for the activities: I'm an experienced rider, so the ride was a little laid-back for me, but I did expect that going in. What I didn't like was the company we did the horseback wine tour with called Horseback Wine Tours-inventive, I know approves kids for this trip. I know there's the horseback element, but I'm in my 20s and do not enjoy wine touring because of all the kids you get to hang out with! That's not the point! A family of 5 had kids around 10-13ish, and one of them fell off her horse, and the ensuing hubbub tears, delays, etc wasn't very fun. To HWT's credit, their company dealt with the incident VERY professionally, and I say that as a fellow rider. That said, I really dislike children and don't think bringing them to venues that serve alcohol is appropriate, and this would have been my opinion even without the child falling. I mainly did this trip for the horseback element as it was the only riding trip out of Melbourne that provided transportation. I do love wine touring, and wished the winery Green Olive and cider house that we visited talked more about the products that they were serving us. They provided a bare minimum, in my opinion. The other activities I wasn't as excited about, but I did very much end up enjoying the strawberry picking they had cider/wine/spirits tasting too at no cost and the gardens they were simple but nice, and worth the extra 10 for the short zipline. Despite the rain we hit at the end, it was a fun day. The small group was very nice, and I can't emphasize enough how great Kyle was.
If you are looking for something a little different to do take the horseback and winery tour. We enjoyed ourselves even though it rained and we got soaked. The horseback guides were great weather you were a novice or an advanced rider. Personally we were not too impressed by the wineries but the entire experience I would recommend.
The actual Winery tour was great!! The actual tour company that takes you to the winery was very disorganized. Our bus driver was never told to drop us off at a certain point Needless to say we missed40 minutes of our winery. At one winery we got 10 min. everything was rushed.
