A sunrise balloon flight over Melbourne is a truly remarkable experience.

Balloon flights over Melbourne appeal to people of all ages - young and old alike. There are few major cities in the world that can be traversed by hot air balloon and there certainly is no better way to take in Australia's second largest city.

You will then be transported to the launch site where you may help with the launch, or stand back and take pictures. In the early morning light you will drift by the array of parks and gardens that make Melbourne the world's most livable city. As the city comes to life you will look down on some of the city's iconic venues like the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground), Melbourne Park and Albert Park racetrack. Your flight will last for approximately one hour. After the final landing and packing the balloon away, head back to your hotel so you can enjoy the rest of the day in Melbourne on land.

If you are looking for a romantic soft adventure that gives you a peek at city life from a totally different angle, then Ballooning over Melbourne is a must.

Where you will Fly:
Depends on the winds and you may fly over the CBD, which is laid out in a large rectangular grid like pattern on the northern banks of the Yarra River. Or you may head over the inner suburbs, parks and gardens to discover why Victoria is labeled the Garden State.

What to wear and what to bring:
Ballooning is an audience participation activity and you will be encouraged to assist with the set up and pack away of the balloon. It is an active morning in the outdoors, so wear clothes that can get stained or dirty. Please note: The burners can sometimes drip water mixed with carbon.

Wear clothes as for hiking, including sturdy shoes, warm socks and a cap, plus sunglasses if you wish.

      • You will meet before sunrise so depending on the time of year and weather, it can be extremely cold
      • Generally it will not be any colder in the air during the flight than on the ground, so wear layered clothing that can be removed as the day warms up
      • The burners can radiate heat so a hat is recommended
      • Your feet can get wet and cold in the early morning dew, you may like to bring a change of socks
      • High-heeled shoes are not suitable
      • DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR CAMERA AND LOTS OF FILM!

      Flight Cancellations:
If the flight is cancelled, you can either reschedule for another day or receive a full refund. Please note, you will be required to pay for any meals enjoyed.

      Ballooning Basics:
Pilots do not steer balloons in the same way you would steer a plane or a car. Balloons are dependent on the winds. Like a bubble of detergent, balloons are carried by the wind and their direction is determined by the direction of airflow. Before your flight the pilot will release small helium balloons to allow them to observe the wind direction and speed. This determines the direction of flight and appropriate launch site. While in flight, pilots can control the altitude of the balloon very accurately. By flying at different altitudes, the pilots can use different wind speeds and directions to maneuver the balloon to where they desire, often with extreme accuracy.
