What You Can Expect
Verona and Lake Garda Full-Day Tour
After meeting your guide in front of your comfortable air-conditioned coach in central Milan, drive about 100 miles (160km) east to Verona for a 2-hour walking tour with a local guide.
Your guide shares the highlights of Verona, a city that boasts archaeological sites, Shakespearean lore, and a gorgeous medieval town center. You’ll visit the Roman Arena, built in the 3rd century BC, and the world-famous Juliet’s house (Casa di Giulietta) to see the balcony that might have inspired one of Shakespeare's most famous scenes in Romeo and Juliet.
Once you finish swooning over tourists’ love letters scattered about the courtyard of the love-struck Capulet, head over to the bustling Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza Bra with your guide. Here, you'll have time to explore on your own and have lunch (own expense).
Next, you’ll reboard your coach and drive 45 minutes to Sirmione, a pretty town located at the end of a spit of land on Lake Garda. You’ll have free time to walk around the small medieval streets, taking in the striking sight of Rocca Scaligera, an enormous castle surrounded by a moat. If you want, cruise around the scenic lake on a 30-minute boat tour (own expense).
Your guide shares information about Lake Garda’s scenic villages as you pass them during your coach ride back to Milan at the end of the day.
Swiss Alps Rail Tour
The next day, you’ll leave Milan in the early morning on a scenic coach trip to Tirano, a town in the foothills of the Alps. Spend a short time in Tirano before boarding the train for St Moritz.
Ride the Bernina Express from northern Italy, crossing the spiraling Brusio viaduct and over the Bernina Pass, to reach St Moritz 2.5 hours later. Built more than a century ago, the bright red train chugs up 7,330 feet (2,235m) in elevation on the Bernina Pass, a route that is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Along the way, you'll get stunning views of the valleys, lakes, glaciers and waterfalls of the Swiss Alps.
Disembark in St Moritz and enjoy some free time to explore on your own. The lakeside resort town features top-notch skiing, miles of hiking trails, and an elegant downtown with designer boutiques. The shimmering lake, majestic mountains and lush forests make for great photo ops. After taking in the sights, you’ll depart by coach in the late afternoon and arrive in Milan about three hours later to end your tour.
Please note: You must bring your passport on for the Swiss Alps Rail Tour.
