What You Can Expect

Private Tour: Wine and Dine Experience from Montevideo with 3-Course Lunch

Montevideo wine tasting

The Uruguayan wine region is one of South America's largest, and you'll have a fabulous introduction to it with this private wine tour. Your experience begins as you are picked up from your Montevideo hotel in a private minivan and whisked off to the first tasting location, a Uruguayan winery known for its tannat, a red wine grape that makes a rich, bold vino.

With your private guide, a knowledgeable sommelier of the Uruguayan wine industry, take a tour of the property and learn about its winemaking process. The winery’s history of winemaking in Uruguay is a family affair, and you’ll learn about their love of the vines before enjoying a tasting of five different varietals, accompanied by light snacks.

Back in your minivan, return to Montevideo, where you’ll have an elegant three-course lunch at a local restaurant (varies per tour) prepared by the chef and owner of the restaurant. Widen your pallet and continue your education of Uruguayan wine as you enjoy your traditional dishes paired with wine from a special sommelier's collection and bubbly.

When your meal is over, you’ll be returned to your hotel.

Our knowledgeable English speaking guide (and driver),Ryan, picked 4 of us up for our tour. He was entertaining and informative on the drive to the winery (which wasn't too far out of town). The winery we visited (Bodega Carreou) had a 10th generation member of the wine making family give us the tour, which included a chance to see wine being bottled and labled. After a short tour of the facilities we went to a cozy tasing room. We were offered a wide array of wines, from the starter series to the premium line, including some older vintages. There was no shortage of wine to be drunk. After we had our fill, Ryan drove us back to town to a special restaurant for a special lunch, with a special wine that Ryan brought to accompany the meal. I was fearful the meal would be something typical and unmemorable. I shouldn't have worried-the meal was the best we had during our 14 day South American trip and the wine was great!. It was obvious the chef took pride in his craft and rightfully so. This wine tour was well worth what we paid and I recommend Ryan without hesitation!!
