Excellent tour with Adam our tour guide who was extremely knowledgable about the history and background of Ludwig. This was the best tour we did in Germany- very enjoyable.

Have you ever had a steam train ride? You will with this trip. The tour guide was funny and had plenty of stories to tell about the area and what had happened there. The palace is not the only thing you see as you go there by boat you can also visit a monastry and/or a local beer making place on a different island.

The Herrenchiemsee Palace Rail Tour was incredible as was our guide, Adam. The rail trip itself was approximately an hour, and it is on the train that journeys to Salzburg. This does make the train crowded on a Saturday, and because of that, it can be difficult to sit together as a group. It is really the only fault I can find with the trip, and truly it is a minor detail. As for the actual tour, Adam not only has an exceptional personality to be a tour guide, but his education regarding King Ludwig II was remarkable. Adam made history palpable, and enlivening. At first, one travels to Herreninsel where the history of the monastery is introduced, and while walking through the wooded grounds, eventually the gardens of Herrenchiemsee Palace greets a person. It is exceptional to view, and a splendid treat to see the fountains turn on. The palace, itself, is indescribable, exquisite and opulent, and too, there is a museum there neatly framing the life of King Ludwig II. Fraueninsel is also lovely. The church on the island is splendid, as is the scenery. If one enjoys the romanticism of King Ludwig II, what his life embodied, then I would highly recommend this tour. It is unforgettable.

I would love to report that it was a fabulous trip but I had to forego the excursion due to a medical emergency.
