Travel from Munich to Bavaria’s Neuschwanstein Castle on this day trip that includes round-trip train transport. Often known as Germany’s ‘Cinderella castle,’ Neuschwanstein was actually the inspiration for a different Disney story, the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ castle at Disneyland. Take a guided tour of the castle, and hear stories about the ‘Mad’ King Ludwig II, who commissioned it. The entrance fee is not included, but skip-the-line access is, so you won’t wait in the main admission queue.

Neuschwanstein Castle Smaller Group Day Tour from Munich

Neuschwanstein Castle Small-Group Day Tour from Munich

Your day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle starts with the approximate 2-hour train journey from Munich through the German countryside. The entrance fee to the castle is not included (you can pay on the day), but by booking this tour in advance, you’ll receive skip-the-line access to Neuschwanstein so you won’t waste time standing in the ticket queue.

Once inside the enchanting structure, take a tour with a knowledgeable guide, who shares fascinating stories about the reclusive Bavarian king who commissioned a new residence in the 19th century. Thought to be mad, King Ludwig II desired a fantasy castle built in the mountains, an obsessive feat that was still incomplete when he died. Visit the best vantage points for views and photo ops of the castle’s towers, interiors and surrounding scenery such as the lake, gorge and equally beautiful Hohenschwangau Castle. Your tour ends with the return trip to Munich.

Fantastic day out! Used a full day of our trip in this but it was totally worth it! The tour guide was brilliant, an excellent combination of a guided tour with time for you to wander and explore the town yourself. We were completely blown away by the castle and its surroundings. Unbelievable value!

Extremely smooth process. So happy that we had a tour and a guide for this experience. What a beautiful spot. Warning to anyone with knee/ walking problems: there is a lot of walking and stairs on this tour. The castle is a 45min walk up a hill, but there is the possibility to pay 2 euros to go up by bus, and 3 euros to go down by horse-drawn carriage.

Wonderful tour! Absolutely one of the highlights of our European vacation. Our guide Aidan was terrific! We thought the timing, information and scenery were spectacular. The tour was the right blend of alone time and time with the guide and group. Great because we got to enjoy the inside of the castle, but also got time to explore the grounds and take in the stunning views.

We would highly recommend this tour. Our guide was Austin and he was AWESOME! : He was so insightful - I am not the 'history type' but he had me so interested in Ludwig II that I was googling even AFTER the tour! As for him if you can! Thank you for an amazing tour!
