This has been the coolest part of my trip to Europe this time and my first trip 10 years ago. The bus company is subcontracted to haul people on the tour to Neuschwanstein. There was a slight miscommunication I believe with our original bus guide and it looked like the trip was going to be a bust. Once we figured out what the official agenda was and that we were on the right tour it completely 180'd. When we got to Neuschwanstein and realized that we had to check into the Muller Hotel the trip became highly recommended. The castles were amazing. Neuschwanstein is a must see if you stay there or not. I recommend going inside the castles at least once. Neuschwanstein looks like a Disney castle and is good for people of all ages. The Muller hotel was as good and hospitable hotel as I have stayed at. The staff deserves the highest rating. The double room also very cozy with the old German feel. We had enough time to check out the other castle the following day (Hohenschwangau) and take in the sights. The night we stayed we took a cab ride to Fussen which is a local smaller town with enough to do. I would stay at the Fussen again and could spend several days there. Everyone around town was also very accommodating. For the most part everyone speaks English and if you know the basics in German you should have no problem. The tour guide that took us back to Munich after the night stay was also very knowledgeable and had all of her ducks in a row. I think the poor experience with getting to Neuschwanstein was a complete fluke and do not expect repeat trouble for anyone else. I highly recommend this tour and would consider doing it when I make it back to Munich.

This was fantastic hotel absolutely fabulous second castle caused me some problems as the climb was so long and steep and I have a bad back and two injured knees but well worth the pain and effort when I eventually reached the top really recommend staying overnight to be able to see the third castle

No complaints at all. Highly recommended. We had a great time. It was the highlight of our six week travels through Europe. We appreciated the constant reminder emails from Viator as this reassured us that our booking was confirmed. Staff from the bus company and Hotel Mueller were excellent. Town was quite and relaxing - if you are looking for night life this is not the place for you! Visitors shoud do the tour of Hohenschwangau castle to get an overview of the history as tours of Linderhop and Nueschwanstein are very basic and crowded. Understandably, no photos are allowed in the castles but we felt that they could at least allow access to one or two external facing windows so that people can photograph the views from the castles. Visitors must take a photo from the bridge (worth the extra walk) when visiting Nueschwanstein as this castle currently has scaffolding on its other sides. We recommend that visitors take the bus or horse and cart to castle Nueschwanstein unless they have lots of time and are very fit. We travelled on a bus with day trippers to the castle and many expressed disappointment that they did not know that staying overnight was an option! We would not do it any other way.

Would have liked more time at Linderhof Palace, but otherwise the tour was good, with plenty of time at Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. The hotel was amazing, and there is plenty to do in your free time.

Very interesting, informative, and a great Hotel to stay at for the one night at the base of the best of the three castles.

The tour was ran very well-all of the guides were well informed and entertaining. The overnight stay was well worth it since we did not have to hurry and could enjoy the castles and the area at our leisure.

There was really no person to "take" you to places but they left us with the right hands along the route. The Muller Hotel was nice.

The hotel was fantastic. We got a suite with a view of Neuschwanstein. The bad side is that the tour operator never contacted us at the start of the tour. Someone finally told us that the supplier had subcontracted our package to another company. No one on that company's bus was doing the overnight tour, so we were kind of going along blindly. We did not know our schedule until we got to the hotel after Linderhof and Neuschwanstein the first day. It would have been nice if someone had contacted us at the beginning so that we knew what was going on. Overall, the hotel was very nice, and it was absolutely worth staying overnight to have a chance to enjoy swimming and boating in the Alpsee with the castles and the Alps around us.

Overall the tour was good after we figured out where we were going. It was very unorganized at the meetings points both when we started and at pick up. At pick up We were on the one day tour we were told to be outside at 4:15pm to meet the bus. We arrived 30 minutes early to be on the safe side. We stood outside in the pouring rain for about 15 minutes before I inquired with the hotel about what time the bus would arrive? They told me it was always about 45 minutes to an hour late so closer to 5:00pm. We went and waited in the hotel and went back out into the rain at 5pm. We looked for a rep but were just lost in a sea of others not knowing what to do. I asked a bus driver for help but he didn't know how to direct us. We finally found a rep who put us on a bus back to Munich. I gave it a three because of the issues with boarding, but otherwise all the stops and the hotel were great. I think if they can improve their boarding process and make it easier for guests they could be a five. When we boarded the guides seemed to be too busy with their coffee breaks to be dealing with us and they were quite curt and not very friendly.

This was an excellent trip in terms of the scenary and the places visited. Be prepared to do a lot of walking up and downhill, particularly at the Neuschwanstein Castle. The hotel was very nice and the town very pleasant. We had a nice evening meal at an outdoor restaurant by the nearby lake.
The bad part about this trip is that we were treated like add-ons to the day-trip participants. The guide aboard the bus did not know what hotel we were staying at and didn't secure a visitation time to the castle different from the day trip participants even though we had more time and didn't need to be rushed. Worse, we were given a voucher to be picked up for the return trip to Munich at 1600 hours. After waiting in the hotel lobby for a while, we had to ask at the desk about the return trip and were told then that our return wouldn't occur for another two hours - near 1800. We were joining a group in Munich that night and inquired about the return time to make sure it was as advertised prior to booking. Clearly, we were just pawns in the plans to accommodate the maximum number of parties for the day trip.

Enjoyed this tour although a lot is self guided. Could be improved by telling guests where they will be staying ahead of time. Hotel is mentioned or stay at similar hotel. Guide was not sure of hotel I was staying at, so that was stressful until hotel confirmed reservation (on arrival at hotel).

The places low on my scale are Hohenschwangau and Linderhof. Hohenshwangau was a stocking-filler, nothing to recommend it unless you've got a fetish for tawdry Christmas baubles and gnomes-in-the-back-garden kind of thing. Neuschwanstein felt outlandishly Disneyland. But the views along the walk to the castle were worth it. A lot of time was wasted at this and other sites, waiting around for out turn to enter the "attractions". The reception at the hotel had problems finding our name on the reservation register, and to make matters worse, we were not given a voucher for the hotel as we boarded the bus at Munich. In the end, we decided it was more convenient to forgo the night even though the room was prepaid because we could not be sure if we could find another coach the following day to bring us back to Munich. Never again!
