What You Can Expect

Romantic Road, Rothenburg and Harburg Day Tour from Munich

Rothenburg, Germany

With a local guide, travel by air-conditioned coach to the small town of Harburg, with a wonderfully well-preserved castle perched on a hill. Dating back to the 11th or 12th century, the castle is one of the best-preserved in all of Southern Germany. Passing through the Swabian crater landscape and Dinkelsbuhl, arrive in Rothenburg, a medieval town that is also amazingly preserved. Here, you have about three hours of free time to spend however you like: perhaps sightseeing on your own, relaxing over lunch or shopping for souvenirs.

Stop in the Kathe Wolhfahrt Christmas Store on Herrngasse, a wonderful spot for shopping year-round for tree ornaments, nutcrackers and other seasonal decorations. You won’t want to miss Marktplatz, where Town Hall with its Rothenburg History Museum is located. And poise your camera to capture Rothenberg’s St Jakob's Church, a Gothic, light-filled masterpiece.

On your return trip to Munich, pass through the world’s largest hop-growing area of Hallertau.

Our tour was absolutely AMAZING! Our tour guide, Marcus, was very knowledgeable and informative. He had a commanding voice and had us hanging on his every word for what was a very long bus ride. Thanks to Marcus, it went by very quickly. At Harburg, our castle guide was Axel. Axel was only 17 and as he informed us VERY new to this job, we were one of his first tours. You would never have known it from listening to him! He has an enthusiasm and energy level that was un-matched by anyone we'd met so far. He seemed genuinely excited to be giving us all the information. His English was very good, and his smile infectious! If you go on this tour, ask for Axel, you won't be disappointed! Rothenburg was a beautiful town. We could have stayed for another couple of hours and still not had enough time there. Again, Marcus was full of information about the town's history, architecture and nuance. This tour was definitely worth a day of our trip, we highly recommend it!

The drive is a little long, but that is why I booked a tour, because there is no way I can get there by myself! the castle tour was okay, what I love the most is the little town of Rothenburg! It is such a charming little town!
