One of Southern Africa's most important and most well known Game Reserves is Etosha National Park, the "Great White Place of Dry Water". The park is dominated by a large mineral pan, part of the Kalahari Basin, which is surrounded by Savannah. Numerous waterholes are scattered throughout the park, which attract a higher concentration of animals and wildlife.
Etosha National Park covers an area greater than 22,000 square kilometers and is home to 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, even one species of fish! The park has an excellent infrastructure with well maintained tarred roads and 3 rest camps.
Etosha National Park is well known for its population of elephants, believed to be numbered at over 2,000, and also has a large quantity of giraffe, zebra and springbok. With all these herbivores around, the park supports a healthy population of feline predators such as lions and cheetahs, and you may even spot the odd elusive leopard. The park is also well known as being one of the last wild sanctuaries protecting the endangered black rhino.
