Head to the Ferry Building in San Francisco in the morning. Depending on the day you select, you’ll take the ferry (Mon-Fri) or a bus (Sat-Sun) from here to Vallejo, where you’ll then hop on a shuttle and travel north to Napa.
Board the Napa Valley Wine Train in downtown Napa and journey north through beautiful Napa Valley wine country. You'll be served a gourmet 3-course lunch prepared to your specifications from the highly acclaimed onboard restaurant, which uses fresh ingredients, sustainable produce, humanely raised meats and line-caught or farmed fish (see below for a sample menu).
Choose from four different itineraries, listed below. Please check in 30 minutes prior to departure. All transfers and tastings are included. After your winery tour and train ride, you'll be taken back to San Francisco.
Valley First Tour (offered every day)
Board a coach in downtown Napa at 10am and head straight to Raymond Vineyards for a 1.5-hour winery tour and tasting. On the way, enjoy views of Napa Valley’s less-developed east side as you travel along the Silverado Trail.
Arriving at the winery, begin with an introduction to the winery's history and organic farming practices, and then take a guided stroll between the rows of vines while learning about the biodynamic grapes -- those grown without the use of pesticides and artificial chemicals.
Sip a variety of wines in the tasting room while chatting with the sommelier, and then explore the extensive production space to see the machinery and facilities involved in the crushing, fermentation, bottling and storage of wine. You'll have an opportunity to purchase some of Raymond's wines if you wish.
You'll be taken to the train station in the afternoon. Sit back and relax with a complimentary glass of wine and enjoy the views as you ride north to the quaint town of St Helena. Savor your 3-course meal in the dining car and enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine from the bar (own expense) as you pass through Oakville, Rutherford and Yountville, home to The French Laundry, Thomas Keller’s highly acclaimed restaurant. Arrive back in Napa in the afternoon.
Grgich Hills Tour (offered every day)
After boarding the train at 10:50am, you'll be served your meal in the Petite Gourmet Car. Admire views of Napa Valley as you enjoy your appetizer and main course.
Travel north to Rutherford and disembark at Grgich Hills Estate for a 1-hour private tour and tasting. This award-winning family-owned winery also grows biodynamic grapes, which you'll learn about on your guided walk around the vineyards. Then, get a behind-the-scenes look at the cellar and enjoy a private tasting with a wine educator. You may even get to meet Mike Grgich himself!
After your tour, hop on the train again and head to the lounge car for dessert and coffee. The remaining hour of your trip can be spent relaxing with your fellow travelers or exploring the rest of the train. Arrive in downtown Napa around 2:30pm.
Ambassador Tour (offered Monday through Thursday)
Before you board the train around 11am, begin with an educational wine seminar at the Napa train station. Learn about wine culture in Napa Valley from a wine educator, who'll answer any questions you have.
Enjoy lunch in the Petite Gourmet Car right after you board. As you eat, marvel at the beautiful western side of Napa Valley and then head to the lounge car for coffee and dessert.
Hop off the train in Rutherford and then board a luxury coach for a ride to Raymond Vineyards, where you'll take a 1-hour winery tour followed by a tasting. Explore Raymond's winemaking facilities and taste wine directly from the barrel. End with an exclusive tasting of select Raymond Reserve and Small Lot series red and white wines.
Continue to a second winery, ZD Wines, for an additional 1-hour tour and tasting. Discover this family-operated winery's organic methods and solar-powered machinery on your tour, and visit the cellar to view what's fermenting. Finish with a tasting of current-release wines accompanied by nuts, fruits and cheeses, all while enjoying sweeping views of Napa Valley.
Re-board the coach for a 30-minute drive south on the scenic Silverado Trail, arriving in Napa train around 4pm.
Domaine Chandon Tour (offered Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays)
At the Napa train station, you’ll receive an overview on what to expect throughout the day. Afterwards, board the train and head to the Petite Gourmet Car to enjoy your meal, followed by dessert and coffee in the lounge car.
Ride north through Napa Valley and disembark in Rutherford, where you'll board a private shuttle for a drive to Domaine Chandon. Here, enjoy a 1-hour tour and tasting starting with a walk through the vineyards. Tour the production room while learning about the history of this winery's French founders.
