Board the Napa Valley Wine Train in Downtown Napa and travel north through gorgeous Napa Valley. As you admire views of wine country, you'll be served a gourmet 3-course meal prepared to your specifications. The highly acclaimed onboard restaurant prides itself in using fresh ingredients and sustainable produce, as well as humanely raised meats and line-caught or farmed fish (see below for a sample menu).
You have the choice of three itinerary options, listed below. Please check in 30 minutes prior to boarding. All transfers and tastings are included.
Valley First Tour (offered every day)
Hop aboard a coach in Downtown Napa at 10am and head straight to Raymond Vineyards. View the vineyards and rolling hills of Napa Valley’s less-developed east side as you travel along the Silverado Trail.
When you arrive, your 1.5-hour tour begins with an introduction to the winery's history and organic farming practices. Walk between the picturesque rows of vines and learn what it means to grow biodynamic grapes -- those grown without the use of pesticides and artificial chemicals.
Sample several wines and test your senses to see how well you can identify certain flavors and aromas. Explore the extensive production space to see the machinery and facilities involved in the crushing, fermentation, bottling and storage of wine, and finish your tour with an opportunity to purchase some of Raymond's wines.
Head to the train station around 12:30pm. You'll be welcomed aboard the train with a wine tasting before being invited to sit back, relax and enjoy the views as you travel north to the quaint town of St Helena. Along the way, you'll pass through Oakville, Rutherford and Yountville, home to The French Laundry, Thomas Keller’s world-famous restaurant.
Enjoy your 4-course meal in the dining car and enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine from the bar (own expense).
Grgich Hills Tour (offered every day)
Board the train at 10:50am and head to the Petite Gourmet Car for your meal. Enjoy views of Napa Valley while you eat as you travel north to Rutherford.
Disembark at Grgich Hills Estate for a 1-hour private tour and tasting. Grgich Hills Estate is an award-winning family-owned winery committed to biodynamic grape growing. Walk around the vineyards and get a behind-the-scenes look at the cellar before ending with a private tasting led by one of the wine educators. You may even meet Mike Grgich himself!
After your winery experience, re-board the train and head to the lounge car for dessert and coffee. Spend the remaining hour of your trip relaxing with your fellow travelers or exploring the rest of the train. You’ll arrive in Downtown Napa around 2:30pm.
Ambassador Tour (offered Monday through Thursday)
Your experience begins with an educational wine seminar at the Napa train station. A wine educator will speak about wine tasting and grape growing in Napa Valley as you taste some wines and ask any questions you have.
After boarding the train around 11am, enjoy lunch right away in the Petite Gourmet Car. Marvel at the beautiful western side of Napa Valley while you eat, and then head to the lounge car for coffee and dessert.
Disembark in Rutherford at Grgich Hills Winery and hop aboard a luxury coach for a transfer to Raymond Vineyards, arriving around 1:45pm for a 1-hour tour and tasting. Explore Raymond's winemaking facilities and taste wine directly from the barrel. Your visit concludes with a tasting of select Raymond Reserve and Small Lot series red and white wines.
Continue to Napa Valley's oldest winery, Charles Krug Winery, owned by
Peter Mondavi and family. Charles Krug has beautiful grounds and a
history dating back to 1861. Here, guests will enjoy an additional
1-hour tour and tasting.
A leisurely 30-minute drive south on the scenic Silverado Trail takes you back to the Downtown Napa train station around 4pm.
