This is not for the fainthearted; the trek to the summit can be gruelling should one not be wearing the right footwear and have drinking water. The tour on the other hand was good with a very knowledgeable tour guide. The views from the summit are amazibg and there is that sense of achievement having made it to the top.
It will be a challenging walk to the top after you get off of the bus, which takes you most of the way up. We went in June so it was very hot, which made it harder. It was well worth it though. The bus needed to be cooler. Be sure to bring water for the trek up. There are shops at the top where you can purchase drinks, snacks, and souvenirs.
If you plan on seeing Pompeii and Herculaneum you should see Vesuvius as well. Amazing views of the region and a chance to see an active (if currently very placid) volcano. Our guide was excellent and very entertaining and the driver was very good as well (believe me you want that). Worth the climb.
It was a great experience to climb to the top of the volcano! Since we had already toured Pompei, it was interesting and insightful to go to the top of the volcano. The climb to the top is a little difficult if you are out of shape but manageable since you can stop to rest as often as you need. The view from the top is amazing! The tour company arrived on time and picked me up at the hotel. It took longer than advertised since they had to pick up other people as well though. They give you just enough time to climb to the top and come back down and do a little shopping and then will drive you back to your hotel. Wear comfortable shoes!!
Climbing Mt. Vesuvius is something I've wanted to do for a long time. I noticed the 'fitness level recommendation' on the website after I'd booked the tour and since my fitness level is at UNFIT I got nervous but went ahead anyway to see how I'd go. I took my time, 30 mins and getting to the top was worth it. Make sure you wear runners or hiking boots as the pebbles on the track can get slippery.
A simple and efficient way to see and climb Mt. Vesuvius. Would recommend this trip - far easier than doing it on your own. This was a great experience.
Terrific tour -we almost made it to the top, a bit steep to climb up,but it's a beautiful site. High recommed it.
Great trip! Mt. Vesuvius is a must see. The guides were great, on time, very friendly and experienced. Highly recommend!
We were supposed to go on 20th March but the weather took a turn, fog and rain up Vesuvius, visibility reduced to nothing. So the lovely guide came to our hotel and rearranged for the next day, extremely helpful and also arranged a transfer down to Sorrento as we were moving hotels on the same day. The tour itself was very good, concise information, good amount of time around the crater and friendly guide. All in all a very enjoyable day and excellent photographs.
Hello, the excurtion was excellent. But the excurtion was postponed from 1215 to 1245. The result of this was that I had to buy a new train ticket back to Rome, 45euros.
Tour was very pleasant. Guide was friendly and helpful though I would have liked to have heard more about the history of eruptions of the volcano. The bus dropped us back right near our hotel. I would recommend this tour.
A good trip. Had a great private mini-bus/Mercedes - had to travel to Pompeii to pick up others. Door-to-door service with polite driver and guide during journey up the mountain. Would have liked an extra 15 minutes to complete the full available trip around the crater.
