What You Can Expect
After a break for an hour to enjoy a delicious pizza lunch, you will then board your coach to transfer to Mt. Vesuvius, to view first-hand the source of the devastation that destroyed the city of Pompeii almost two thousand years ago.
You can choose to climb Mt, Vesuvius (approximately 45 minutes), accompanied by your guide, and walk around the crater at 3,900 feet (1,200 meters). From the summit you will have panoramic views of the picturesque Bay of Naples from east to west. Peering down into the depths of the crater, you may see plumes of steam issuing from the sleeping, but still active, volcano.
A medium to high level of fitness is required to complete the climb. Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes! There is a rest point where you can choose to wait for your group if you do not wish to climb all the way to the top.

Took our group of 6 on this shore excursion. I would never have learned so much about Roman life before the eruption of Vesuvius. Our guide Andreas brought this place to life again with his stories and running commentary, especially at the brothel and the bath house. The is a lot of walking and the reward was stopping for the most delicious pizza before we continued our bus ride up the mountain with lots of hairpin turns-look for some of the sculptures along this road. The parking lot is very close to the top of the mountain. Unfortunately, we did not get to climb to the top since a visitor had been struck by lightning the day before our tour and the path to the top was closed. However, it was still worth the trip for the beautiful views from near the top. Would highly recommend.
Really enjoyed the tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and also good fun. Would highly recommend.
