What You Can Expect
After a break for an hour to enjoy a delicious pizza lunch, you will then board your coach to transfer to Mt. Vesuvius, to view first-hand the source of the devastation that destroyed the city of Pompeii almost two thousand years ago.
You can choose to climb Mt, Vesuvius (approximately 45 minutes), accompanied by your guide, and walk around the crater at 3,900 feet (1,200 meters). From the summit you will have panoramic views of the picturesque Bay of Naples from east to west. Peering down into the depths of the crater, you may see plumes of steam issuing from the sleeping, but still active, volcano.
A medium to high level of fitness is required to complete the climb. Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes! There is a rest point where you can choose to wait for your group if you do not wish to climb all the way to the top.
Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your timely return to the Naples port for this activity. In the rare event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.
Excellent guide who spoke excellent English and knew his history. Loved Pompeii. I can say I've climbed Vesuvius....don't know if I'd do it again.
Tour of Pompeii was interesting and about the right length with a knowledgeable guide. It would be a big site to find your way round on your own. Lunch was efficient and adequate. Walk up Vesuvius was quite difficult but well worth it as the views are spectacular with the crater (no lava but some steam) on one side and the Bay of Naples on the other. Tour made special arrangements to get us back to the ship in time despite Naples traffic.
