Guide was excellent. Trip to Mt Vesuvius was excellent also. Having been to Pompeii before, I do believe a section was missed. The baths section and a few others that had awesome frescoes on the walls. Not having a guide the previous trip I was looking forward to going back and seeing them again and having an explanation about the rooms and artwork. When I inquired about it, I was told it was closed. I find that hard to believe.

Apart from slow start (unsure about exact location of pick up as arrived 15 mins before, as advised, but noone to meet us. Minibus arrived at set time - all turned out ok) Trip went very well. Guide (Andre) was very good and very knowledgable of Pompeii. Good food arranged but expected more choice or maybe even a pizza option. Transport was good to various locations. Climb to Mt Vesuvius was intense (as not very fit) but we went at a quick pace in order to spend longer admiring the views.
Definitely a trip I would recommend to others.

There was a little confusion at pick up since they had the wrong persons name on the pick up sheet. The gentleman at the local tour place worked it out. Other then that, the tour was fantastic! Our guide Andre was very informative and kept the tour moving. Lunch was provided and was also good. This tour is perfect for someone on a cruise ship with limited time and wanting to do more then one site.

Naples is a very run down and dirty place, so we were glad we were not spending any time there. The only thing I wished we could have visited there is the museum-- it has most of the artifacts that have been removed from Pompeii! Pompeii is just a shell-- it was kind of disappointing; I expected to see so much more, but most of it was in the museum (nearly all the frrescoes and even the mosaic floors have been removed.) Our guide, Andre was wonderful though, and kept us laughing the whole time! He was very knowledgeable. Vesuvius was overcast the day we went up, and we couldn't see anything except clouds. So, I guess we can't really judge that part of the tour, but we were disappointed again. Our friends who took the Pompeii tour with a Sorrento/Capri side trip were more pleased with their choice than we were with ours.

Excursion logistics worked out well and had a nice tour guide. But she passed us to someone else at Pompeii who gave a bilingual tour -- this was *NOT* communicated prior. By giving the tour in 2 languages, I felt that we only received half the value of our walking tour. She was also not open to questions from the group and did not keep the group together very well.

Tour guides was prompt and organized. The only negative--we wish he'd used a microphone with earphones so that we could hear him and keep up with him. One person monopolized him with questions and it turned into a personalized tour just for her, which meant less information shared with the remaining paying customers.

We were rushed on this tour. After a 10am pick up(surely it could have been earlier, we docked at 6.30am), making our way through the back streets of Naples, we waited for half an hour for other customers to be woken up and organised. This ate into our time. For our guided tour of Pompeii, we were joined by about twenty other people. Also the wait at the restaurant for our food was about half an hour, although lovely when it arrived. The result of this is that we had to practically run up Mt Vesuvius, a feat for 60+ year olds. I wouldn't use Viator again.

During our recent trip we booked 4 excursions with Viatar, and this one was the only one which was not absolutely wonderful The group was far too large, included folks in 2 languages, and contained 3 families pushing babies in strollers. The size of the group was less inhibiting than the other 2 impediments. We found it very trying to stay focused on what the well-versed guide was trying to describe when our explanation was constantly interrupted with a repitition in another language, French. Our progress was severely delayed by the people trying to push strollers along the rough, bumpy, rock-paved streets. Therefore, the excursion took much longer than the proscribed time, and we were frantic that we would not be returned to the ship in time for the sailaway. However, the Mt. Vesuvius stop was much shorter than expected because rain and clouds obscured much of the scene, and people did not spend much time observing. We would expecially like to commend our guides, Maria and Julia for their conscientious effort to persuade all of the group to cooperate and return to the bus promptly so that the 8 people who needed to return to the ship could do so on time. We would also like to thank the bus driver who rescheduled his return trip to drop our groups off first so we could be on time.
Despite the drawbacks, we found Pompeii fantastic. The incredible preservation of the city presented such a complete overview of that thriving society of so very long ago.

Poor planning and poor coordination. The guide was very knowledgeable on the actual tour of Pompeii, however so much of our time was wasted on standing around and waiting for the two coordinators to figure out what do next when it became apparent that the rain would force the closure of Mt. Vesuvius. This tour is definitely NOT worth the money.

Had to search to find the represenative at the port of Naples. Then had to wait before boarding the bus for no real reason! We seemed to have lost one of the guests between the bus and where we picked up the microphone. Actually the guest was not lost but the Tour Guide could not count. This put us back 40 mins and she complained about this consistently during the Ponpeii guided tour. Remarkable that I could hear this as I couldnt make out most of what she was saying as her English was not too hot! Finally due to the time wasted at Pompeii we were late getting to Versuvias and only 3 of us made it up to the crater and around as she left only 1 hour for the complete climb and return! She didnt even seem happy when we returned within the final minute of the hour! Finally she didnt understand that 2 of the party had to be dropped off at the Rail Station until we were almost back to the port, so we all turned around and spend the next 40 mins going back to the Station. No tip for her then and I normally tip well! All in all a very un-satisfactory trip.

Collected by private car from cruise dock at Naples but then had to wait over 30 minutes to be reunited with coach tour after being told that we would only be waiting 2 minutes. Tour round Pompeii was informative but tour guide had a very strong italian accent which was hard to follow. We explained that we had to be back at the cruise dock no later than 5.30pm or we would miss our ship, booking instructions were never passed on!! We reminded them again when we stopped for a pizza lunch as we felt that it was extremely leisurely considering the time restraints. Vesuvius was magnificent although we were left to our own devices. No tour or management. A majority of tour did not climb the volcano which is not for the feint hearted. We were told it would take 30 minutes to go up and 20 minutes to come down. We regularly swim and go to the gym and managed 17 minutes up and 10 minutes down. Our 18 year old 6ft 4 water polo playing son did it in 12 minutes up and 10 minutes down!! After getting to the bottom our tour organisers waited for an hour whilst the drivers sat around eating icecreams! We were getting extremely worried by this stage as it was obvious it was going to be a close thing as to whether we got there in time for our ship. Eventually the mini bus dropped us off a mile away from the cruise dock at 5.30pm!! We ran the whole way dodging through traffic in temperatures exceeding 27C. I am 47 my husband 56 and recently had a cartilage operation. Luckily another tour group were delayed or ship would have sailed. Would never use again, very poor value!
