Pompeii is a unique and very interesting place to visit. It is so much more than mere ruins. Our morning tour provided a glimpse of what life must have been like in 79 AD in the shadow of the ever-present Mt Vesuvius. The concept and quot;stepping stones and quot; in the ancient streets got an all-new meaning, as well as the and quot;fast-food and quot; shops that served hot beverages to theater goers. Also, the very explicit mural and quot;menu and quot; in one of the brothels could just as well have been a few pages from the Kama Sutra. Our two tour guides, namely Jasmin and Suzy (English and Spanish), were very friendly, professional and knowledgeable.
The afternoon half-day trip from Naples to Amalfi along the coastal road (via Sorento and Positano) was absolutely beautiful. This must be one of the most scenic routes one can find anywhere. Our small group (only 5 persons) was treated to frequent stops for photographs, coffee, lemoncello and 20 minutes free time in Amalfi. The driver/guide, Pasquale Ombra, provided an excellent service in English; I can highly recommend him.
Overall, I was picked-up on time from my hotel (Royal Continental) and the tour (morning and afternoon itinerary) provided what was promised plus personal touches from the respective guides. I can highly recommend this tour; it is definitely worth the money.
Great trip. Excellent driver with immense local knowledge.
Our trip to Pompeii was really delayed, no fault of Viator, due to a strike at the Pompeii site. In any event they kept the group together and informed about what was going on and we eventually got in. The Pompeii guide was knowledgeable and entertaining about the history of the site, period and people. The Amalfi coast is spectacular and was a great trip the pics do not do it justice. We had a great guide Tony and driver Pasquale that really went the extra mile to ensure we got to see what we needed to. The only thing I would ask is they improve the pickup point from our ship as it was really confusing.
I will always recommend Viator after our experience in Naples! Due to the strikes at Pompeii, we were unable to enter until 11:00 am. But the tour guide surprised us with a drive up to a panoramic view of the city while we were waiting to enter Pompeii. It was a wonderful "side-track" and a gorgeous photo op. because of the delay in getting to Pompeii, we were concerned we would not have time to complete the full tour up the Amalfi coast, but our wonderful tour guide worked the whole time we were in Pompeii to make different arrangements for me and my daughter so we could still complete the tour. She hired a private driver for us, ordered us lunch to go, and off we went on a personal tour of the coast! We were so grateful for her efforts and will always remember that breath-taking view of the coast as we traveled along. We arrived in plenty of time to board the ship, just as they had promised. Thank you Viator for being such a dedicated company to your customers!
Great tour, enjoyed the spectacle very much. The tour guides were very knowledgable and the service provided was good. Amalfi coast was spectacular, a new sight around every corner.
The city of Naples was very disappointing - it looks very run down and dirty. Traffic congestion is a big problem and nobody seems to give way at traffic lights or pedestrian crossings - it was a relief to leave Naples for Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast.
We went from Naples to Sorrento for about 4 nights - Sorrento is a fantastic spot. Would avoid Naples in future.
Pick up location was well communicated and tour of Pompei excellent. The included lunch so so and be careful to check on the drink prices (not included). Tour of Amalfi was really just the driver who wasn't much of a guide. If you're a little squeamish on windy roads, sit up the front. Scenery however breathtaking.
Pompeii and Amalfi Coast were, as expected, incredible and beautiful. The guide for Pompeii was knowledgeable and helpful. The driver, Ricardo, for Amalfi was charming. I was apprehensive I would experience motion sickness due to the winding roads, but I had no trouble at all. Ricardo is an excellent driver.
I booked this trip for me and my wife, and we both had a great and amazing day. The trip to Pompeii was comfortable in the air conditioned bus, and the guided tour of Pompeii was amazing and informing. Our guide was called Susie I believe, and she was very good. The lunch after Pompeii was ok too, nothing special but still decent quality, and definitely wouldn’t leave anyone still hungry . The trip down Amalfi after was great as well, as we stopped at the look out points for great photo ops at most of the towns such as Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi before stopping for about 45 minutes in Amalfi itself. There was plenty of time to wander the pizza, get a gelato, and check out the waterfront too.
The only hitch (and reason for 4 stars not 5) was that we nearly didn’t get picked up because the tour bus came to our hotel and picked up two other people for the trip but forgot about us! We were sitting and waiting right there, but they didn’t call our name, and as such we thought it wasn’t our tour (there were plenty of tours doing the pick up rounds that morning). Luckily the reception desk called the tour company and they came back for us, but it could have been a very disappointing mistake.
Pompeii portion was excellent! Great guide, ample time and decent lunch which was included in price.
The bus broke down during the second portion of the trip which w can be considered ok (these things happen) BUT the drive/"Guide" for the second portion was awful. Unfriendly adn unapologetic. My boyfriend and I stayed behind in Amalfii, we just hope everyone else made their cruise or at least were shown soem sincerirty from the driver.
Generally, I would recommend this tour for people who are on tight schedule and would like to see more. The tour guides for Pompeii and Almafi Coast are good and overall, we had a pleasant trip.
Disorganized is best discription. Picked up at hotel at 8 am, un---announced. was eating breakfast. Confirmation papers said to meet at the Naples port 9 pm to join others. Appreciated the pickup, but----Then the tour group leader seemed to be confused on who went where as the meeting point had couple tour groups. Finally departed at 10 am for Pompeii. Of course no toilet facilities on the bus ! Finally at 1040 am was able to use restroom in Pompeii. Not good start. Tour started immediately lasting only 1:40 MINUTES---a rush through tour by our guide. We were told over 2 hour tour. Seemed other tour leaders were much better explaining Pompeii. Many in our group complained to the Viator staff who had no control over the Pompeii people. Balance of the tour to Amalfi Coast was good. Bus drivers were great.
The trip itself was great- good guides, was picked up on time and saw everything I wanted to see. The tour guide for Amalfi was especially awesome.
However, the agent from Viatour did not inform me that
- Drinks would not be included at lunch
- The cost for Pompeii entry was not included
- Gratuities were not included
As long as you are aware of these things and are OK spending the money- go for it!
Picked up from hotel at 8.00 was great, trip and tour around Pompeii with guide was just right about a two hour tour which was sufficient in the wonderful sunshine, guide was very informed and interesting.
Cameo factory tour i thought was ok if you want to buy a Cameo the use of their cloakroom was the best bit.
Lunch was i thought poor there was obviously different menus as we saw what other tables had in the restaurant, ours consisted of a teaplate of spaggetti pomerdoro,a teaplate of lettuce, one thin slice of beef ,one ball ice cream.
We then left for our tour of the Amalfi Coast which was amazing wonderful veiws of the coast,we stopped for a couple of photo opportunity's and had 15 mins in Amalfi.
We then headed back to Naples to drop off at hotels our driver was not aware that we were going back to the Piazza Bellini until we told him then he was unable to find it we eventually asked to get out as we thought we were in the hotel area and it was now 19.00 hrs and we walked the last bit to our hotel out of desparation.
We did enjoy the trip but it was a very long 12 hour day.A good way to seethe sights .
Well i booked my trip for me and my future wife looking forward to an amazing day trip. We booked the trip with Viator and even put detailed information in the comment box that we were taking the Italo speed train from Rome to Naples and even gave arrival time. I advised I would make sure we were at the Maritime Port prior to 9am as required. So we arrive to the port and nothing there marks a tour bus/van or where to go in this huge port. Was there from 840am to almost 930am and no one showed up. Luckily a gate operator called the number on Viator email and advised we were sitting there for almost an hour. Finally the tour van came close to 10am. I had a sprint cell phone which was not receiving any info in Italy and I got an email while in Italy that the tour company CAN pick us up at the train station but when booked was never even given name of the tour company. Hence the Tour company told us they were at train station waiting for us. Horrible communication. Then upon leaving the tour company got another call that they missed another couple. All in all we probably didn't head out close to 1030am. We then got to Pompei to go in the factory which was basically get rushed to buy over priced jewelry, bags etc. We waited upstairs after looking around and waited for tour to Pompeii ruins. Hence the group was passed off the a tour guide that never counted the group, and stranded us at the factory as we were waiting upstairs. Hence the facility went out of their way to take us through the ruins to find the tour guide, which her response it is not her responsibility for who is in group and she just began it. When asked why wouldn't she ask how many people are on the tour before beginning, introducing yourself, etc. No response but great thanks to Carmine at the ruins for helping us although we missed about 20% of beginning of tour. Finally arrived in Almalfi and only had 20 minutes to walk around.
