This tour operated by Gray Line was superb. Our bus driver/guide, Sylvester, for the city tour was fantastic. He had such a great personality and was extremely informative. The paddle wheeler was a fun experience too.
We chose the option to take the tours on separate days. We did the city coach tour first to familiarise ourselves with our new surroundings. This two hour trip took us to all the main tourist spots with an excellent commentary by our driver Michael. By the end of the tour we had a very good idea of the history and geography of New Orleans with an insight into the different people who made up this diverse city. He also gave us information about Hurricane Katrina and included a visit to one of their "above ground" graveyards.
The following day we boarded the last steam powered paddle boats on that stetch of the Mississippi. Again we were given a running commentary as we sailed on this very interesting river. Details included population, history, industry and,of course, shipping facts.
This was another excellent package which was very good value for money.
The City Tour was great to do at the beginning of our trip to orient ourselves with the surrounding area. 2 hours was a good length. I wasn't as impressed with the Paddle wheel cruise. The best thing really was the breeze!
Good value for money. New Orleans is an industrial city so don't expect wonderful views from the paddle boat It is what it is!!
We really enjoyed our trip. Too bad the weather was rainy and cold but the bartender on the top deck was great and we had a nice visit with him.
A wonderful afternoon's cruise on the Mississippi in glorious weather, made all the more enjoyable by the informative commentary relayed around the decks.
Nice view of the city and the history lesson of the houses was informative. Paddle tour was a fun ride but not much scenic views, mostly old harbors and rusty boats.
Good for Mark Twain fans to get a feel for the big river. If you're not, just a boat ride. Not terribly scenic.
