Absolutely fabulous tour - I would highly recommend it along with the 'soul food' lunch option!!
This was a great day--we loved every moment of it. It was great to get out of"downtown' and into an ara with real people. It was great to see the work being done by people like Magic Johnson to put pride into the community. The church service and choir were uplifting and we felt privileged to be a part of it. Lunch at Sylvias's was fabulous and a must-do at the end of the trip.
The Harlem Gospel Tour was excellent. The vibe inspiring, buzzing and lots of fun. I really appreciated the fact that the purpose of the choir was for drug rehabilitation and that the members were voluntary. It was truly an uplifting experience and the soul food at Sylivia's was definitely worth the extra money. I even bought her Soul food cookbook! Thoroughly enjoyed this tour.
It was fantastic. Informative, interesting and inspiring. Thanks so much for a great time.
my tour was all that i expected and more the tour guide was the most knowledgeable guide that I have every had on a tour, the tour itself was great, didn't see all of the stuff that was advertised but the tour i would recommend to anyone,
This tour was amazing our guide (Glenn) was so knowledgeable as he grew up in Harlem and we walked around the neighbourhood and then attended a service. The Service was amazing and they included you all of us in it. It was fantastic, such amazing voices, we left on a high and enjoyed the lunch at Sivlia's for some soul fold. Would highly recommend.
I paid for the lunch option as well. It was expensive but the waiters were happy to bring more food if you wanted it. The singing was excellent. Hard to imagine that they are not professional singers. This gospel tour is different to the Sunday one. The session is specifically for tourists whereas the Sunday one is an actual Sunday service. I have been to both. My preference was the Sunday tour but this one was worth doing too.
Our tour guide Mahalia was very informative and very passionate about the history of the area it was impressive. Well what can I about the Gospel tour it was just like being in the movie Sister Act. The Pastor a little 89 year old man giving thanks to the Lord hat they have their church.Which started out as an addiction reform center but they need to pay the mortgage of the church so they started their choir. It gave us Goose bumps then we were invited up with the choir in front of the congregation to join in with the Song OH Happy Days. WOW it was so uplifting and inspiring.
Then we went to Sylvia's Soul Food for lunch and again what can I say. Sitting in a quaint restaurant with a gallery of pictures of famous people thanking Sylvia for her fine food . The likes of Sidney Poitier, Obama, the temptations and Bill Clinton among many more. We ate corn bread, cat fish, southern fried chicken, collard greens and so much more.YUM . Definitely recommend this tour
Great tour, the highlight being the Gospel Choir. It was also great to visit Harlem and see how different it is to what we had thought it woudl be like.
I am so happy that we did the Gospel Tour. The bus tour itself was very interesting and informative. We had a terrific guide. The service in the Church was amazing. Fabulous choir and most choir members also sang solo. Found it very inspirational. I recommend it to anyone travelling to New York - don't miss it!!
