Absolutely fabulous tour - I would highly recommend it along with the 'soul food' lunch option!!
This was a great day--we loved every moment of it. It was great to get out of"downtown' and into an ara with real people. It was great to see the work being done by people like Magic Johnson to put pride into the community. The church service and choir were uplifting and we felt privileged to be a part of it. Lunch at Sylvias's was fabulous and a must-do at the end of the trip.
The Harlem Gospel Tour was excellent. The vibe inspiring, buzzing and lots of fun. I really appreciated the fact that the purpose of the choir was for drug rehabilitation and that the members were voluntary. It was truly an uplifting experience and the soul food at Sylivia's was definitely worth the extra money. I even bought her Soul food cookbook! Thoroughly enjoyed this tour.
It was fantastic. Informative, interesting and inspiring. Thanks so much for a great time.
my tour was all that i expected and more the tour guide was the most knowledgeable guide that I have every had on a tour, the tour itself was great, didn't see all of the stuff that was advertised but the tour i would recommend to anyone,
This tour was amazing our guide (Glenn) was so knowledgeable as he grew up in Harlem and we walked around the neighbourhood and then attended a service. The Service was amazing and they included you all of us in it. It was fantastic, such amazing voices, we left on a high and enjoyed the lunch at Sivlia's for some soul fold. Would highly recommend.
I paid for the lunch option as well. It was expensive but the waiters were happy to bring more food if you wanted it. The singing was excellent. Hard to imagine that they are not professional singers. This gospel tour is different to the Sunday one. The session is specifically for tourists whereas the Sunday one is an actual Sunday service. I have been to both. My preference was the Sunday tour but this one was worth doing too.
Our tour guide Mahalia was very informative and very passionate about the history of the area it was impressive. Well what can I about the Gospel tour it was just like being in the movie Sister Act. The Pastor a little 89 year old man giving thanks to the Lord hat they have their church.Which started out as an addiction reform center but they need to pay the mortgage of the church so they started their choir. It gave us Goose bumps then we were invited up with the choir in front of the congregation to join in with the Song OH Happy Days. WOW it was so uplifting and inspiring.
Then we went to Sylvia's Soul Food for lunch and again what can I say. Sitting in a quaint restaurant with a gallery of pictures of famous people thanking Sylvia for her fine food . The likes of Sidney Poitier, Obama, the temptations and Bill Clinton among many more. We ate corn bread, cat fish, southern fried chicken, collard greens and so much more.YUM . Definitely recommend this tour
Great tour, the highlight being the Gospel Choir. It was also great to visit Harlem and see how different it is to what we had thought it woudl be like.
I am so happy that we did the Gospel Tour. The bus tour itself was very interesting and informative. We had a terrific guide. The service in the Church was amazing. Fabulous choir and most choir members also sang solo. Found it very inspirational. I recommend it to anyone travelling to New York - don't miss it!!
This was a great day which was made easy as everything was so well organised. The singing was absolutely excellent - they were all so very talented. I enjoyed it so much that I bought the CD. It was something different from the usual tourist attractions and it was great to see people who had struggled with addictions pick their lives up through the music and singing. Thank you for a unique day!
Outstanding! One of the best experiences in my life: singing "Oh, happy day" in that church all together. If you like music, if you.'d like to know more about Harlem, if you want to meet interesting people , don't miss this great opportunity. I came back lighter and happier. Mahalia was great!
Excellent tour! We had a really informative guide and enjoyed the tour of Harlem! The choir at the baptist church was amazing and got everyone involved! To top it off we ended the tour with a delicious soul food meal from Sylvia's! Overall an enjoyable and worthwhile trip!
Harlem Gospel tour was fantastic, very well organised with an informative and highly entertaining guide. Gospel choir very soul stirring and inspirational. You will love it, a highlight of our visit to New York
This is my second time to NYC and my second time on this tour w/lunch. This tour is a must do when you are in NYC and don't be cheap, do lunch at Sylvia's. The tour guide was good, he related some of his life experiences in NYC/Harlem to us while on the tour, we were able to get out and stretch at a few spots and received alot of information. Again, this is a must-do in NYC, I recommend it to everyone. Finding the location of the bus/tickets/registration was very smooth and easy. Enjoy!
Loved this but suggest that if you are going to do it, embrace it and don't just be a tourist! I sat amongst the locals and had a great time.
Fantastic morning, loved all of it, bus ride through Harlem and surrounding ares was great. gospel singers had everyone standing and clapping. Would recommend this tour to all.
We went on the Harlem morning gospel tour. it was such an interesting tour. We were taken around Harlem looking at different places like the local muiseum and the Apollo theatre. We then went to the church where the choir sang there were a school group that had come from another part of the state and they also joined in. We were then taken to Sylvias resturant where we all enjoyed a meal of soul food. This tour was very interesting and well worth the money.
The guide makes the tour. Our guide was extremely good. Very knowledgable and entertaining. The tour was a success before we even arrived at the church. The Gospel experience was a bonus.
