Harlem is the historical heart and soul of New York's black community. And over the last few years Harlem has evolved into one of New York's hip neighborhoods full of bars, nightclubs and restaurants.
Harlem is also the heart of soul of jazz and bebop music. Virtually every black artist of note has performed at Harlem's Apollo Theater, from Duke Ellington to Charlie Parker to Ella Fitzgerald to James Brown. This evening tour gets you behind the scenes of Harlem and covers all aspects of the area, from Harlem's musical legacy to its churches and spiritual centers to its swinging nightlife and Soul Food cuisine. You'll be treated to a traditional, home-style Soul Food meal at a local restaurant. Then catch a jam session at a local Harlem jazz club, where the drinks are included and the music is steaming. There's no better way to explore the full range of Harlem's history, music and food.
On Mondays, you can dance the night away at Harlem's renovated Cotton Club, where you'll swing to the beat of a terrific, swing band (free dance lessons if you want them).
