Being a first time traveller to New York, I was a bit worried about how I was going to get around to all the sites. I decided to book the hop on hop off tour and thought it was amazing. It was really informative and really easy to get around, and when you get off at any of the stops it's never too long before the next bus comes along. The tour guides are friendly and really seem to care about their city.

For the first time visitor to NYC, the bus tours should be an essential. The four tours (Uptown, Downtown, Brooklyn and Night Tour) enable you to see parts of the city you might well miss. The guides were well informed, and each one had their own individual, amusing style. If you're doing the tour early in the year--that includes April--be sure to wear several layers it gets bloody cold on top of the bus!

Very useful thing to do early on in your trip to orientate yourself with the entire city. We took an initial loop around both uptown and downtown, taking a camera and a notebook to write down the stops and the sights that interested us to jump off and go back to at leisure. Highly recommend a two day pass. The tour guides are diverse each with a different knowledge of the city, if you don't like one, jump off and get on the next one as they're every 15 minutes.
