What You Can Expect

Doubtful Sound Wilderness Cruise from Te Anau

Doubtful Sound Wilderness Cruise from Te Anau

You'll be picked up from your Te Anau hotel and travel to Lake Manapouri to West Arm. You'll board a coach and cross over the 670-meter high Wilmot Pass. You'll stop here to view Doubtful Sound far below. Your journey continues to Deep Cove where you'll board a spacious catamaran for a three-hour Doubful Sound Wilderness Cruise that takes in the most dramatic scenery of Doubtful Sound. The skipper will provide detailed commentary and point out highlights.

Ten times larger than Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound is an unspoiled wilderness of many moods, one minute clear, blue and sun drenched, the next mysterious and mist shrouded. A wild place of dense rainforest, rugged peaks, cascading waterfalls and deep still waters quiet, serene and green.

Keep a look out for wildlife as bottlenose dolphins frequently come alongside the vessel, fur seals bask on the rocks around the fiord and rare penguins can at times be observed.

*** Important note for travel effective from 01 - 30 June 2013: Please be advised that due to operational vessel maintenance, changes have been made to the Doubtful Sound Wildness Cruises. This is now a 3 hour Cruise exploring the Inner Fiord and all the arms of Doubtful Sound, (including Power Station visit) and will not reach the Tasman sea. It is a leisurely three hour cruise, with an on board Nature Guide explaining the history of the area, information about the flora and fauna and also pointing out locations of interest.
The rate and time schedule remain the same and you will enjoy an exceptional experience in Doubtful Sound. ***

5 star rating: Highly Recommended April 2015

Real Tours is a well experienced and efficient operator. Whole day trip was excellent from start to finish. Forget Milford Sound, this is the one to do. It is worth four of Milford any day.
