On this Normandy Battlefields Tour you will retrace the main assaults undertaken by the British forces during the first few days of the Battle of Normandy on the eastern side of the Operation Overlord. In addition to the landing in Ouistreham on Sword Beach, you will also visit the famous site of Pegasus Bridge, captured just after midnight on D-Day by elements of the 6th Airborne Division.

Begin your Tour with a drive to Pointe du Hoc.The site with its huge fortification blown to pieces is still today as it was when the Rangers left it and looks like a lunar landscape.

After this visit, drive along the coast to Omaha Beach where soldiers of the 29th and 1st Divisions landed, fought and died.Overlooking the bluff is the American Military Cemetery, where 9,387 service men rest in peace. Always keep in mind the movie "Saving Private Ryan".

At the Museum at Pegasus Bridge, you can also see a full sized replica of the Horsa gliders used in the attack as well as a Bailey bridge and the original Pegasus Bridge itself which no longer spans the canal.

After visiting Sword beach, you will visit the Hillman Bunker complex. Found a couple of miles inland from Sword Beach, the fortifications that made up the Hillman complex are just outside the village of Colleville-Montgomery. The different bunkers, used as a German command post, are now cared for by the Association of the Friends of the Suffolk Regiment.

The Commonwealth Cemetery of Hermanville holds the bodies of 1,005 soldiers, mostly English, but also Canadians, Australians and French. You will always remember the moving epitaphs written by the families themselves who lost their sons, their husbands or their brothers in Normandy in the Summer 1944. The tour ends in the charming village of Creully which held in 1944 the studios of the BBC.
