What You Can Expect
Continue along the Douro River and learn about how the grapes were carried down this river to Port (fortified wine) winemakers’ cellars. Arrive at one of northern portugal’s most famous attractions, Ponte de Dom Luis I, a double-decker metal arch bridge spanning the Douro. Pop off your bike, and learn how Gustave Eiffel’s apprentice engineered this bridge. Next, turn off Aliados Avenue into Liberdade square where you can capture photos of the monument to King Peter IV.
Pedal a little further, onward to São Bento Station, and see its panels that depict scenes of Portugal’s history. Then, peer through the windows at Café Majestic and observe its ornate interior featuring carved wood, mirrors and chandeliers. A short ride later discover the bustling Bolhão Market where friendly farmers come to sell their local produce and fresh fish. Finally, roll by Clérigos Tower as you cruise to the medieval neighborhood of Miragaia.
Spin back with your guide to downtown near Ponte de Dom Luis I where your tour ends.
Virginia was a wonderful tour guide! We have taken bike tours in several European cities and have always enjoyed them. Biking through Porto really requires some assistance with the narrow streets and heavy traffic. Our tour started a bit late, but we were notified by text, so no problem. We were able to stow stuff in the van so we didn't have to carry it. The tour covered a large area of Porto with stops and historical information. We loved the Market stop and bough fresh fruit there. It was a wonderful way to see Porto!
Outstanding way to see the city - not too many hills
we toured the main points of town, and got a very good grasp of the city. the guide was excellent. highly recommend!
We visited Porto in early August. The bike tour was a superb way to see this wonderful city. Our guide, Ricardo, was brilliant - friendly, fun and very willing to share his endless knowledge. Ricardo really connects with people. By the end of the tour, it was as if we had always known him. We would highly recommend this bike tour and rate it 10/10. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks. I must admit when we arrived in Porto and saw how hilly it was I was a bit nervous about our intended cycle tour, but it was so well-planned with interesting regular stops it wasn't dificult at all! Emma was a fantastic guide, really passionate about Porto and willing to answer all our questions. We had a fab time and would highly recommend this tour.
Great ride, fun time, good tour guide, lots of key sights, great photo opportunities...
The tour itself was great. Our guide, Tiago, was super personable and made a point to remember everyone's names. He had a lot of knowledge and was from the area. The tour does have some climbs but they are pretty manageable and there are lots of photo stops along the way. The route is set out to minimize your uphill pedals.
The only negative was the bike quality. They were extremely challenging to ride as gears didn't work properly, and on my bike something was rubbing the chain so even pedaling on the flat was hard.
If the bikes would have been better, the tour would have been fabulous. We ended up being out for 4.5 hours instead of 3 because the guide was so great!
