This was an all day trip to the Big Island. Do expect to see a conventional volcano as it is different to what you may expect. However, it was amazing to be quite close to an active volcano. Our tour guide had a monotone voice so although he was knowledgeable he kind of put us to sleep sometimes. Early start and late finish for the whole day.

It was a good trip but a very long day. Make sure you get enough rest. The tour guide was very informative and we got to see some cool stuff although keep in mind this is a 'shield volcano' not a cone-shaped mountain spewing lava. We didn't get to see a lava flow up-close but we did get fairly close to the area where the lava runs into the ocean. A long hike to see it over very rough, dried lava terrain but a cool experience none the less. If you have kids, I would make sure they have endurance to do lots of walking over rugged ground.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Everything was well organized and there were no problems with the tour. My only complaint was that by the middle of the day we were all so tired from meeting the bus at 4:30am that we didn't enjoy it as much as we might have. However, to fly to another island for only one day requires the early rising.

Worth doing if the weather cooperates. I visited on the tail end of a storm and visibility was not great. Even in the mist it was impressive, but would undoubtedly be better in clear weather!

Don't expect to see an active, hot lava flow up close on this trip, don't kid yourself. But that's not Viator's fault but rather national safety standards - you don't actually want to get burnt.

The motor coach was clean and spacious. Our driver grew up in the area and was very knowledgable. The only draw back was with such a long day, the food options weren't great, so bring your own sandwich if you can!

A fantastic experience. I had a bit of waiting around as I came in on the first flight. The tour guide was great, even lent out sunscreen.

This was a long day, but enjoyable. We enjoyed the views of the volcano crater and lava flows. I recommend taking food with you, as there were no lunch stops and we ended up with ice cream for breakfast. Also, the trip ended at four in the afternoon, but our flight was not scheduled until after six, so we had a long wait at the airport.

Our guide only gave info in the van. Saw other guides with customers outside of their vans providing information.

We had a few problems. We had to wait forty five minutes for other people to join the trip at the airport. Also, the stops at each place of interest were too short to really see everything and take good pictures. Our guide talked in a monotone voice that put a few people to sleep, and there was a pretty broad gap between the advertised start time and the actual pick-up time.

Disappointing that the volcano experience was nothing like that implied by the photograph. All that could be seen was a wisp of steam on the horizon.

If I knew we were not to see the lava flows or active crater, I would have hired a car, as side visits to an orchid farm and macadamia plantation were not what we signed up for. The information regarding the older flows and craters was good, but very disappointed about coming so far and being so close and not getting there in the end. This information should be given to people so that they can have the choice to make their minds up and do a half day walk rather than be stuck in a bus to watch everything fly past.

This tour was interesting but we did not have enough time at the volcanic sights. The volcanoes are the real highlight.

Over 4 hours in the airport and in transit was rather painful. The bus was very uncomfortable, with very little legroom, and I am only 5'11". My wife, who is 6'1" was very uncomfortable. The tour guide, although knowledgeable, had a voice and delivery method that put you to sleep. To top it off, there was no lava flowing at the ocean viewing spot. Generally, I would suggest saving the money and paying for your own flights and hiring a car.
