the bus was late picking me up by 20mins and then it wasn't at my motel as they said it would be. if it wasn't for me seeing it across the road picking up people i wounder if he would come overfor me.once on the big island it was great the guide was full of information and gave us plenty of time to look around and take photos. when the tour was over it was back to the airport where i recomend that you book your flight with hawaiian airlines as it left eariler then my flight with GO airlines it was 2hrs after our return and there was nothing to do or go at the airport

well well well, what can i say , cause sharon said it all!.. for 10 hours straight. she's definaltly one of a kind! most knowledgeable person I've ever seen! so pay the money just for her! the volcanos come second on this trip, and in the first hour she'l tell you won't ever see any lava cause she has never seen it in 30 years of doing the tour. ok so don't get disjointed its worth the money you defiantly see a lot of cool stuff, rainbow falls, cool flower shop, nice lunch, lava tube, top of an active volcano, and you get to stand right on recently old lave flow its defiantly amazing, take heaps of photos we did.. just pack a few red bulls and expect to be out all day 16 hours or something.. best tour u could go on at the Big Island! youl understand what i mean :) from downunder

If on Oahu and you want to get to another island this is a good way to do it. Makes for a very long and fairly expensive day, but seeing the volcanoes etc is worthwhile. Choice of lunch spot (Lava Rock Cafe) was a bit weak but not bad.

Excellent and passionate guide.. the combination of seeing an active crater, walking through a subway size underground Lava tubes and traversing hapoypoy lava fields than fall through a tall cliff makes for a great experience.

The highlight of the trip was the lava tube at the Volcano Park where you got to go and walk through it. Would recommend you take the earlier flight out from the Big Island as the group ends up back at the airport based on flights out. So if you have a later flight, you are stuck at the airport and there is not anything to do there. Otherwise, our guide John was informative and had quite a bit of anecdotes about the island. However, would have appreciated that this trip be a two day trip to also include the Kona side of the island. Also, the lunch options were not ideal. You were given a choice of eating at a "diner" upon which the guide would call ahead and order your food for you and it will be ready when you get there or try your luck with what is surrounding the diner. Personally, the sandwich shop may have had better food and better bang for your buck. So definitely ask your guide about your lunch options.

The crater and lava tube are worth the trip. However almost from second step on bus drivers are having to engage in some serious expectation management. As other reviews note the photos and advertising create an image of close up views, black sand beaches with crashing surf merging with active glowing lava flows. The drivers who must otherwise face disappointed faces on this every day are at pains to emphasize that this is not going to happen that due to dangers kept miles back from activity, that photos of glowing craters are not lava, and even if hired helicopter could spend days looking for that elusive red lava . The day is very long but is however very well organised and customer focused and even from a great distance the crater is an amazing life experience. The only issue is the classic sales guys creating an image that the guys on shop floor can't deliver-if expectations were managed from sales stage would be a much more rewarding experience

Very nice, I was expecting to have long walks, but the bus took us to the right spots, we saw the calderas, the lava tubes, everything that they promise. The Bus took us from the Hotel timely, and the flight was smooth. In the Big Island. Jane was our bus driver, she was funny, helpfull, and knowlegable. Thank you Viator for assemble this trip

My husband and I had a fabulous trip to the Big Island. Tour guide, Dennis, was friendly, knowledgable, and encouraged a successful comraderie among his group. The photo opportunities were excellent, lunch at the Lava Cafe was fun and delicious, and there were just enough shopping opportunities without being too commercial. My only critisism was an unpleasant incident at the airport departing Honolulu. A non-US citizen tourist arrived without his passport as ID. While he was badly in error, the tour representative berated the man and publicly humiliated for his mistake. That was unnecessary and I even think, given that the man had just lost his entire payment, a little bit of empathy would have been more appropriate. The attitude of the Tour representative made it an embarrassing time for everyone.

This was a long but fascintating tour. Pick up at the hotel was at 5am, and we didn't return until 10pm. However we saw such amazing things including the Volcano national park, Macadamia Nut Farm/Factory, Orchid Farm, Waterfalls and other great sites. The highlight was the Valcanos and seeing the lava fields, steam vent and lava tube. Great trip, but it would have been enhanced by having meals included.

Was a very long day, but extremely interesting and worth doing. Didn't get to see any lava flow as the volcano has not been very active for the last 18 months, but we did see the steam reasonably close and got to walk on the lava rock. Commentary by our bus driver John was very informative and funny, but he had quite a monotone voice which sent me off to sleep a couple of times (after getting up at 4am for the airport shuttle).

I took my 4 year old. She's way into volcanoes. You won't see active lava, but the sights are impressive!!! It was raining, which worked out quite well. I was tired from walking all around Waikiki, and just relaxing on the bus was nice! The tour guide Dennis was great! My only concern is the length of the trip! Started at 5am and got back to hotel at 9:45pm. If the tour company could somehow work with the airlines to have a slightly earlier flight back, it might work better. Flying with Go Mokulele was not the greatest experience. For the extra $30 or whatever, you might just want to choose Hawaiian airlines.
