Portobelo Bay is the famous city were all the treasures from South America where transferred to Spanish Galleons and left for the Old World. This activity became very attractive to Pirates and Buccaneers, who would attack the boats to steal the treasures.
Sir Francis Drake epitomizes the self-made Elizabethan privateer, rapacious in the hunt for treasure (especially Spanish treasure) but daring and visionary in exploration.
