Why Our Insiders Chose This Tour
This day trip lets you experience a small French town full of charm and character and packed with history, which your guide will tell you all about. If you haven't been outside of Paris before, this is a great chance to see a real slice of France!
What You Can Expect
Upon arrival, head straight to Chartres Cathedral, the town’s 12th-century UNESCO-listed masterpiece of French Gothic design. Tour the cathedral with your guide, who will point out its well-preserved historical features like the flying buttresses, spires and stained-glass windows, which are some of the best examples of their kind in France. Hear about the history of the Catholic site, from its role in the Middle Ages to its present-day functions.
Next, you have free time to explore Chartres at your leisure. Stroll down its winding lanes, admiring shop fronts and half-timbered houses, before making your way to Brasserie L'Annexe for lunch (see the Itinerary section for sample menu). Afterward, take a walking tour of the historical town center as your guide tells you about its medieval history. Walk through the old city along a narrow channel of the River Eure, crossed by several footbridges, and see sights like La Porte Guillaume and the ancient city wall. Then visit Collegial Saint-André, a Romanesque collegiate church that dates back to the 1300s.
Your day trip ends with the return drive to Paris for drop-off.

Great Trip. Incredible church...bigger than the Notre Dame in Paris. Guide worked hard the show us as much as possible and explain everything. Luncheon was also well done...good service...good food...convenient location. Long day....
Wonderful trip with a knowledgeable guide! The small van and small group tour was perfect!
The cathedral and the town were both excellent. Our Guide was excellent both in her knowledge and enthusiasm.
Me and my wife had a perfect trip. We had a very knowledgeable guide, who made sure all the people on tip enjoyed it. I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to spend a day out of the office
Great the cathedral is magnificent. Would have liked more time in the town of Chartre to explore.
Exceptional! We spent an entire day with Hubert, our guide, who was very knowledgeable, interesting and personable. High marks all around!
Lots of time to visit the cathedral as well explore the town. Lunch was delicious. The outdoor patio setting in the sunshine was a bonus.
Loved having a knowledgeable guide and six other interesting travellers.
The whole journey from start to finish was a pleasure. Fabrice was a good guide--just enough oversigtht and just enought degrees of freedom. The cathedral and the whole town of Chartres was a highlight. Our fellow travelers were all a pleasure and lunch was fun. All-in-all, a perfect day.
Great, the guide made the trip so much better with all the facts and details.
We combined this with 5 days in Paris. Very worthwhile trip to see a French town and fascinating cathedral. Too bad much of the inside was closed for renovation. On the other hand, I praise the French for taking good care of their historic treasures like this. the guide was very good...not too long-winded, but he knew his stuff. Small group of just 4 on the trip. Would definitely do it again.
