We thouroghly enjoyed this tour. The countryside is gorgeous and the castles impressive. I was disappointed that there were not many furnishings in the castles but they were still worthwile seeing, as well as their gardens. Our guide Flore was very friendly, incredilbly knowledgable about french history, and really brought out group together so we were all best friends by the end of the tour. I am also a handicapped traveller that uses a wheelchair and Flores went way above and beyond to make sure I had as much access to mostly inaccessible castles as possible. She really made this trip an wonderful experience instead of a disappointment. The lunch was also heavenly!
Pick was within the nominated range. Driver/guide was professional, knowledgeable and courteous. It's a full on traveling day but it was most enjoyable.
Picked us up right at the hotel, super nice and very knowledgable tour guide. Nice itinerary with plenty of time to see everything. The lunch spot was perfect as well.
Not a guided tour and 1 hour at each castle was not enough, if you got the electronic guide there was not sufficient time to listen to all the information.
We were disappointed that the guide was predominantly a driver. He provided some history during our transport to the Chateaus but merely gave us our entry tickets and left us at the entrance. I had been sick from food poisoning and when we asked for our lunch selection I indicated that I only wanted tea and nothing to eat as I wasn't feeling well. After not having to be fed, I was then charged for my tea. The other members of our group had coffee after lunch as did the driver. They were charged for the coffee and the driver stuck the group for his coffee as well. Sites were very interesting but very cold in the winter weather.
Driver/guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable. My one regret was that we were not given enough time at each castle, but with the drive time from Paris it probably would need to be a two day trip to be able to stay longer.
Wonderfull to visit where DaVinci lived and worked. To see his drawings made into working models was sensational. The next castle at Ceananceau (') was very nice as was the lunch in the Orangerie Restaurant. Chambord was big and a bit boring although interesting from the exterior.
The castles were lovely and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. The lunch was very nice as well. It would have been nice to have had a little more time at the castles and for the price, an audio guided tour included.
A very enjoyable day in the Loire Valley. It's an expensive tour, but also a very nice one. There were only 3 people on our tour which was brilliant.
Very enjoyable trip. Our guide, Anna, was amazing; great info about history and the region.
If you want an introduction to two of the most famous castles of the Loire Valley (Chambord and Chenonceau), then this is the trip for you. The only part of the trip I found disappointing was Amboise. It's mostly a quick tour through Clos Luce (the residence where Leonardo spent the remaining years of his life). Otherwise, the tour guide (driver) was great. The scenery was beautiful; and, all in all, it was a nice day trip away from Paris.
Palaces were great, da Vinci's house was interesting. On-time hotel pick-up was fantastic, with small manageable group size. Transport clean and modern, well-informed guide who spoke excellent English. Would have liked to go into Chambord (even if just very briefly ,as it is apparently mostly vacant) rather than just look through the gates. Booking confirmations were fantastic to receive prior to departing home.
An exceptional day - lovely lunch included. You are left on your own to explore so if you prefer guided tours then this is not for you.
I thought that we would be touring Chambord according to the description but we only stopped far away for a photo. We could not even see the entire Chateau. However, we saw Leonardo DaVinci's residence. Lunch at the the Orangerie at Chenenceaux was wonderful. The day started off badly after the Chambord situtation and I thought we were going to get shortchanged. However at the end of the day my group decided that throwing in Leonardo' s residence actually was a good thing. Three castles in one day plus over six hours of driving is a lot.
Although the tour says " castles and wines" there was no wine tour or tasting. Also it would have been better if our guide walked us through the sites rather than give us our tickets and brochures and allow us towalk through ourselves. Lunch at the Orangerie in Chenonceaux was excellent.
We had a lovely guide called Junior. We had a very busy but great day.The included 3 course lunch with wine was just what we needed. There were 4 nice couples.
My only gripe is that the 2nd castle we visited we had to line up if we wanted to go and see the inside. We only had an hour and had to make a decision whether we would check out the gardens, carriage museum and animals or line up and see if we might get inside. We did the outside and saw everything. Only one couple lined up and they only got to go through the ground level before they ran out of time and had to leave and meet the rest of the group.
All in all a well worth tour
Too far. Good guide though shirt explanations and we were on our own
The tour was a delight with one major exception. It was booked as an English speaking tour and demanded a great deal of narration by the guide as she drove. HOWEVER, Viator slipped in a French only speaking couple from Quebec necessitating prolonged dissertations by the guide in French. It was stressful on the guide (my interpretation) and quite distracting to at least the two of us. The tour is a must -- shame on Viator for misrepresenting a major aspect of the trip. Demand the English only aspect of the tour when you book. The results were aggravating enough to reduce an otherwise 5 star rating to just 3 stars.
We enjoyed the day and the people on the van with us. Some of the instructions about where and when to meet could have been more clear. The lunch was outstanding! We were disappointed that our guide "Silva" did not go along with us to tell us more about what we were seeing. He answered questions, but I think we didn't know some of the questions that we could have asked. We didn't know what we didn't know. His English was OK but it was difficult to understand all he said.
While it was lovely to see the castles, I expected more out of a guide for the price of $300+. Herbert(?) was really just a driver. He dumped us off at the entry of each of the three castles w/ no history or information and let us guide ourselves for appx 1 hour. He had not answers to questions asked after. Lunch was pretty bac as well - low quality food and bad service. I highly recommend going to see the castles and one day was plenty for this; however, I suggest another tour operator w/ more knowledgeable guides.
The tour itself was nice and lunch was really good, but the tour guide was not personable at all. I enjoyed the other guests. However, the guide seemed to be very annoyed by his job and by the guests on the tour (7 total). I felt like we were rushed at the castles, he allowed us 1 hour at each. The tour information indicated we'd get back to our hotels late, 9-10pm, however, we left the last castle at 4:30 and were back in Paris at 7-7:30, but sat in rush hour traffic probably over an hour. The tour guide constantly let on and off the gas pedal so the van was constantly going back and forth. I about asked him if I could drive! On the way home, he was talking to himself, was on and off of his smart phone and swerved in traffic a few times because he was distracted by it. At one point put on his headset and loud music. He was extremely "nervous" acting and very impatient to get back to Paris. He did not want to carry on conversations with any of us and did not have the personality you would expect from a tour guide. He only did what he had to as part of telling us about the castles as we were driving and when we first got to each of them. When we got to Paris he was driving very aggressive and swearing at other drivers. I started to get very uncomfortable and could not wait to get back to my hotel. I also was glad I was not the last one he dropped off because by that time, I was getting a little scared to be by myself with him. I really think he needs to find another job. Other than that, I really enjoyed seeing the castles and meeting the other 3 couples.
Nice trip overall, although the tour guide we had was exceptionally rushed. Even with a small group of 2 families, she would sometimes rush into explanations in a crowded castle before everyone in the group caught up with her. We took several other viator tours and none were rushed like this one. Leaving 3 stars since this is likely because of our guide, your experience may differ.
Needed to have guide within castles or at least, for the cost of the trip we should have been provided with free audio hear phones in the castles.
Enjoyable except for Chambord which would have been better utilised as target practise for the French army
