On board the train from Paris, your expert guide will explain your itinerary and pre-order your picnic lunch, which includes an artisan sandwich, pastry and drink from a Versailles boulangerie (French bakery). In Versailles, you first stop will be a gourmet food market, where you can purchase any other ingredients you’d like to have during the picnic lunch (wine, cheese, fruit).
Your expert guide will introduce you to the local bakers, wine merchants and farmers who sell their fresh produce from their gardens at the charming Versailles markets. Let Guillaime's family hand-select the perfect wine for your picnic, or meet Sergio who will walk you through all of the different cheese and charcuterie options until you find the perfect combo. Once you have selected any additional items to accompany your picnic lunch, it’s time to start exploring Versailles!
Your guide will walk you through the beautifully manicured Gardens of Versailles, explaining the history of Versailles, the royal family, Marie Antoinette and the French Revolution. Then take a break along the Grand Canal, where you will enjoy your delicious French lunch (artisan sandwich, pastry and drink included in the tour cost!).
Next, your guide will take you to the Palace of Versailles, where you’ll bypass the line and have immediate entry into the palace to see its famous features, like the Hall of Mirrors (site of the treaty ending World War I), the King's State Apartments and the amazing King's Chapel. • Musical Gardens Show - Be enchanted by the musical gardens event, known as Jardins Musicaux. Enjoy the simple beauty of classical music played in the lovely surroundings of the Versailles Gardens. The musical gardens event runs on Tuesdays (April 5 - May 24 and July 5 - October 25). No show on Thurs, Sat or Sun.
• Versailles Fountain Display - See the magnificent Versailles fountains display, known as the Grand Eaux.
