Nicola was an amazing tour guide. She offered an overview of WWI and we agreed we needed a refresher. Her overview was detailed yet succinct and I wished I had had a tape recorder with me. She answered everyone's questions well and we did not feel rushed at any of the three sites.
The bus driver Natalie was also great.
Our tour guide was well organized and very informative. We liked his choice of stops in addition to the Vimy War Memorial. Sebastian was entertaining and added to our understanding of World War I. It has been hard to imagine the conditions for the soldiers like my grandfather and for the local people. My husband and I would recommend this tour to others. There were 5 of us on the tour: 2 from BC, 1 from ON and the 2 of us from PEI.
Very informative tour! I'm not a big military history buff but I still got a lot out of this tour. The small group setting was very nice and the pick up and drop off at the hotel was perfect. Would highly recommend to Canadians interested in learning more about Canada in WWI!
Great tour and guide, small group. Fair representations of French, German and Commonwealth cemeteries. Not enough time at Vimy monument.
For Canadians it is a must see. Very informative. Excellent guide.
We both really enjoyed and valued this tour. Sebastian was very well informed and did a great job of guiding us around the various attractions. This is a trip that I would highly recommend
The day trip and guided tour to Arras and Vimy Ridge was fantastic! The pick up from our hotel was very convenient and punctual. The group was small (7 people), which made the tour more enjoyable and informative as we had the time to address individual questions. The guide was very knowledgeable and offered great insight into each location visited. I would highly recommend this tour.
This tour was the big surprise of our trip. The tour guide was beyond excellent. His knowledge of the history surrounding the first war was very in depth. Knowledge of the region and the country of France was first rate. The tour guide was personable and friendly, and went out of his way to engage our children and draw their attention to key elements of the trip. Not easy to do with teenagers. On a personal note I left my jacket behind at one location and without hesitation returned us to retrieve my coat. Well done.
Sabastian made the trip both culturally and educational significant for me. As a frugal Canadian, it was more than worth the price. Thank you Viator and thank you Sabastian for making everything simple and enjoyable.
Informative and within reasonable driving distance of Paris. Door to door service to the from/to the hotel is worth it.
My small group day trip was excellent. Our driver was a very knowledgeable guide who held a degree in history. The visit started with an on time hotel pick up, always a good sign. During our drive to the Arras area we held interesting discussions on what we were about to see and this included a comprehensive background on the political and economic atmosphere prior to the outbreak of the war.
We made visits to the Commonwealth, Polish and German cemeteries prior to our Vimy arrival and the stories of each were very informative.
The Vim Ridge tour was impressive, young Canadian university students conducted tours of the tunnels and trenches. It really brought home the terrible conditions under which soldiers of WWI had to fight.
The Vimy monument is awe inspiring and a fitting tribute to those young Canadian who fought and died. The beautiful weather, green fields and peaceful atmosphere denied us experience of the real conditions of mud and desolation that was apparent at the time of the battle
A lunch stop at the city of Arras proved to be interesting, especially the architecture around the two main squares. On our return trip we visited the monument to the Newfoundland Regiment. Overall, a sobering insight into one of the great battles of WWI.
An excellent tour with Bertrand , who was very knowledgeable and interesting , not just about the battlefields, but also about the countryside during the drive and Paris as we returned. Thank you Bertrand.
Had a great time having Sebastian as my tour guide. It was awesome to see the exact location where Vimy Ridge was and bringing to life what I had learned in high school in Canada. It was humbling also to see the monument that was erected where the top of the hill was. I would recommend the tour to any Canadian who is in Paris and has time for a day trip. This is worth your while to know how it was that Canada became a nation. Also, have the ability to have the pick up from the hotel was nice although since I registered pretty last minute, that option was not available for me. Regardless, 5 star tour!
We had our tour at the end of our Paris stay. We had a couple of people on our Paris tour cancel, so it was just my mom and I with Sebastian, the greatest tour guide in Paris! Nothing like having a history teacher give you a tour of a WW1 sites. As a Canadian, I must say this tour is a must for any trip to France. Kudos to Viator for having WW1 tours leave from Paris! Much appreciated. Would do the tour again if I could..
This was a terrific tour! An absolutely must-do for Canadians - the very best way to visit Vimy and surrounds easily from Paris. In particular, the guide I had, Sebastien, was so knowledgeable - really, an encyclopedia on military history - and really pleasant and accommodating as well - I strongly recommend trying to arrange to have him as your guide. We were also accompanied by Nicola, who is new to the company and is in training, and was a super addition to our little group. I've taken other day trips from Paris with Viatours and this local tour company, and they've all been great - this one was just as good!!
It was great and our guide was wonderful. Full of knowledge but not boring which sometimes happens when talking about history. He gave just the right amount of dates without making our eyes cross. The stories made it all come alive. I have already recommended this tour to some friends who are going to Paris next week.
Our guide, Sebastien, was absolutely terrific. He provided historical commentary throughout and was able to relate stories of local participation during the war. His knowledge of the area and the time period made the tour a highlight of our trip. Our time at the Vimy memorial will be a favourite memory. Thanks, Sebastien.
was a great day. Our tour guide Sebastion was wonderful. Very much enjoyed the Vimy Ridge part of the tour. The Canadian monument is very impressive. Would have been nice to have been able to visit Ypres but
maybe next visit. would definitely reccomend this tour
Our trip was excellent. The Vimy Monument and the trip to the fox holes and caves, and no mans land was enough to leave us speechless. We wanted to visit the battlefields of Beaumont Hamel where the Newfoundlander fought and died, but instead we went to Monchy- le-preux to visit a monument of a Newfoundland Caribou dedicated to the sacrifice made by those soliders.
We were picked up at our Hotel right on schedule and our driver / guide Sebatian was very knowledgable and kept us well-informed and the young Canadian student who did the Vimy Tour was excellent.
We would recommend this trip.
We were a little leary about paying before and dealing with Viator, but everything went so smoothly, just a call to Viator the day before and everything was set up. Very easy to deal with.
Highly informative and friendly tour guide. An interesting day out, lovely area to visit and lunch a pleasure in Arras.
This was a great experience. The driver was at the hotel at the time indicated. He was extremely knowledgable on WW 1. I would recommend this trip to anyone.
Great trip. It was just us and the guide. He was very knowledgeable with respect to the history of the area. He took us to a local restaurant in Arras where we experienced food from the area. We enjoyed the tour of the battlefield and through the trenches led by Canadian students studying there.
Seeing the Vimy Memorial, the trenches, the graveyards and the tunnels was very good and very worthwhile, especially if you are Canadian! However it is very expensive for what you get. I have taken a number of these day trips that offer you a lot more for a lot less money. Plus the address that I was given to met the tour group was the wrong address, fortunately we were early and were able to find the correct pick place.
