An all Canadian tour! The cemetery visits were very moving as was the Memorial. The chance to walk through the trenches and tunnels - we'll remember a long time. This was a wonderfully paced tour, with a great guide who knew his stuff. If you are looking for a name on the memorial, see if you can find someone to help - its not strictly alphabetical.
Would highly recommend.
Fantastic tour...would highly recommend to ww1 history buffs........
Tour guide was wonderful.....well worth the price
I highly recommend this tour. Our guide Sylvain was a wealth of knowledge. He made the tour more memorable.
This is a great tour. We had a very knowledgable guide who spoke excellent English. Touring Vimy Ridge was very impressive and emotional. Learned a lot. Highly recommend it.
although there were only my husband and I on the tour, the company went ahead with it. It was very easy to confirm with the local company. Our tour guide/driver, Bertrand, was excellent. He was extremely knowledgeable and if he did not know an answer, he said so. This tour encompassed everything we wanted to see, especially the Canadian Memorial at Vimy Ridge. It was an awesome day and well worth the money paid. Would highly recommend.
This was an excellent tour with a knowledgeable guide. A must see site for anyone interested in Canadian history.
This tour was everything we expected and more! Our wonderful guide was Nicola. She is extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. The drive through the French countryside was delightful, and as we drove along Nicola explained many things that happened in the area along the way. We had no idea such a large area of France had been devastated by World War I. So many little French towns that we drove through had been destroyed and rebuilt, and as you drove along there were many little cemeteries here and there. The memorials at Vimy Ridge are stunning and moving. Seeing the large Allied cemeteries, and the German cemetery was moving. The preserved landscape was incredible to see, and for us the highlight was being able to walk in the preserved trenches and no man's land. Climbing down into the preserved bunker was also a highlight. The tour helped to give us a sense of the scope and horrors of that war. Anyone with an interest in World War I battlefields should take this tour! We were two of the rare Americans who take it - almost everyone else is Canadian or British, and while they expressed mild surprise that we were interested in it, the tour is applicable to anyone with a desire to learn more about this conflict. There were many options for lunch in the quaint town we stopped at mid-tour. A very enjoyable day, and well worth every bit!
Our guide Nicola was knowledgeable and friendly. Along with the incredible tour of the trenches and tunnels and a visit to the breath-taking memorial, we got an interesting account of WWI events while driving through the countryside. A great opportunity for Canadians and history enthusiasts.
Guide was exceptional, Nicola was so knowledgeable and engaging, Vimy is a place all Canadians should get to see
We did the Canadian focused WWI tour with this company and everything went according to plan. We were picked up on time at our hotel and were in a mini van with 6 other couples. The driver/guide was very nice and very knowledgeable about the area and the war. He took us to a few cemeteries and explained all of the symbolism. The best part of the trip was Vimy Ridge. We had some free time at the monument but also received a guided tour by a Canadian guide of the tunnel system and trenches. We had lunch in Arras which was just ok but the trip as a whole was well worth it. We ended up back earlier than expected but we felt we had enough time at all of the stops.
This is one of the highlights of my trip to France. Our tour guide Sylvan picked me up from my hotel right on time. He definitely knows his stuff, very knowledgeable, pleasant and a professional. There were only the 4 of us on this trip and we are all Canadians plus our guide Sylvan. We had such a wonderful time. Going into the tunnels and walking through the trenches was a moving experience. I would suggest that when you go to the memorial you have to look back at the ridge behind you because the view took my breath away. Sylvan had made recommendations on where to eat in Arras for lunch and the food was amazing. This is a must see for all Canadians. I would recommend this to all of my friends who are going to France.
Most knowledgeable. friendly and helpful guide. Comfortable bus. Very interesting group - all 6 of us Canadians from Quebec, Ontario and Alberta so different perspectives. Tour well worth it.
I really enjoyed that it was such a small group, only 8 people and our guide. The guide did a really good job of allotting the appropriate amount of time at each place we stopped and visited based on the interests of the group and even though the schedule changed a bit throughout the day I never felt rushed or felt like we were going to miss anything. Vimy Ridge is a beautiful and meaningful memorial and site that was amazing to see and experience. Thank you!
We had a wonderful guide, she knew all of the history at each stop. She was very friendly and we all had a great time with her.
Nicola was an amazing tour guide. She offered an overview of WWI and we agreed we needed a refresher. Her overview was detailed yet succinct and I wished I had had a tape recorder with me. She answered everyone's questions well and we did not feel rushed at any of the three sites.
The bus driver Natalie was also great.
Our tour guide was well organized and very informative. We liked his choice of stops in addition to the Vimy War Memorial. Sebastian was entertaining and added to our understanding of World War I. It has been hard to imagine the conditions for the soldiers like my grandfather and for the local people. My husband and I would recommend this tour to others. There were 5 of us on the tour: 2 from BC, 1 from ON and the 2 of us from PEI.
Very informative tour! I'm not a big military history buff but I still got a lot out of this tour. The small group setting was very nice and the pick up and drop off at the hotel was perfect. Would highly recommend to Canadians interested in learning more about Canada in WWI!
Great tour and guide, small group. Fair representations of French, German and Commonwealth cemeteries. Not enough time at Vimy monument.
For Canadians it is a must see. Very informative. Excellent guide.
We both really enjoyed and valued this tour. Sebastian was very well informed and did a great job of guiding us around the various attractions. This is a trip that I would highly recommend
The day trip and guided tour to Arras and Vimy Ridge was fantastic! The pick up from our hotel was very convenient and punctual. The group was small (7 people), which made the tour more enjoyable and informative as we had the time to address individual questions. The guide was very knowledgeable and offered great insight into each location visited. I would highly recommend this tour.
This tour was the big surprise of our trip. The tour guide was beyond excellent. His knowledge of the history surrounding the first war was very in depth. Knowledge of the region and the country of France was first rate. The tour guide was personable and friendly, and went out of his way to engage our children and draw their attention to key elements of the trip. Not easy to do with teenagers. On a personal note I left my jacket behind at one location and without hesitation returned us to retrieve my coat. Well done.
Sabastian made the trip both culturally and educational significant for me. As a frugal Canadian, it was more than worth the price. Thank you Viator and thank you Sabastian for making everything simple and enjoyable.
Informative and within reasonable driving distance of Paris. Door to door service to the from/to the hotel is worth it.
My small group day trip was excellent. Our driver was a very knowledgeable guide who held a degree in history. The visit started with an on time hotel pick up, always a good sign. During our drive to the Arras area we held interesting discussions on what we were about to see and this included a comprehensive background on the political and economic atmosphere prior to the outbreak of the war.
We made visits to the Commonwealth, Polish and German cemeteries prior to our Vimy arrival and the stories of each were very informative.
The Vim Ridge tour was impressive, young Canadian university students conducted tours of the tunnels and trenches. It really brought home the terrible conditions under which soldiers of WWI had to fight.
The Vimy monument is awe inspiring and a fitting tribute to those young Canadian who fought and died. The beautiful weather, green fields and peaceful atmosphere denied us experience of the real conditions of mud and desolation that was apparent at the time of the battle
A lunch stop at the city of Arras proved to be interesting, especially the architecture around the two main squares. On our return trip we visited the monument to the Newfoundland Regiment. Overall, a sobering insight into one of the great battles of WWI.
