When your professional guide picks you up from your hotel in Phnom Penh, drive approximately 27 miles (45 km) to the Phnom Tamao Zoological Park and Wildlife Rescue Center, Cambodia’s only official wildlife sanctuary!
Start your full-day tour of the rescue center, which includes a sun bear sanctuary, with an orientation behind the scenes. During your small-group tour, learn firsthand what it requires to look after more than 100 bears that have been rescued from restaurants, markets and other illegal wildlife traders. Meet the bear keepers and learn how the animals are cared for as you roll up your sleeves and lend a hand. You’ll help prepare meals, enrichment toys and special treats, and then hide the food in the bear’s enclosures.
(Please note: You will not be able to hold, touch or have any direct contact with the bears or other animals at the wildlife center.)
Enjoy Cambodian dishes for a picnic lunch before resuming your experiential tour. Discover what keeps these animals healthy on a daily basis as they thrive in their forested sanctuary. By participating in this unique experience, you'll contribute directly to support the care of the sun bears as well as 1,000 other wild animals rescued from illegal poaching and trafficking at the sanctuary.
At day’s end, receive a commemorative 'Free the Bears Fund' t-shirt before your guide transports you back to your hotel. You’ll leave knowing that you’ve assisted the conservation efforts and upkeep of these beautiful bears, and other endangered animals!
