Cultural Walking Tour of Pisa with Leaning Tower of Pisa Entry Ticket

Learn about the history of the Leaning Tower of Pisa

Get an up close view of the famed Leaning Tower of Pisa: from the top of it. After meeting your guide in the center of Pisa, begin this informative and fun 90-minute tour. Stop for a photo 'holding up' the tower and then visit the grand and jaw-droppingly beautiful cathedral and the ornate baptistry. Often overlooked because of the nearby Leaning Tower, these buildings are majestic in their own right.

Take some free time to explore the area on your own and then meet up with your guide again to head into the town of Pisa to see beyond the tower. Linger for a while in Knights' Square (Piazza dei Cavalieri), the medieval center of town centuries ago, and visit the Scuola Normale di Pisa, a university that was founded by Napoleon in the early 19th century. Next, stop by the Conte Ugolino Tower, named for the count who had a very interesting role in Dante's Inferno, the first book of his Divine Comedy

After strolling around the city admiring the Renaissance and Gothic buildings, head back to the Leaning Tower for the main highlight of the day: climbing the 294 spiral steps to the top for an awesome view of the city.

Please note: If you have a fear of heights, walking difficulties or aversion to enclosed spaces, the Leaning Tower of Pisa climb probably won’t be for you. Use the time to relax at leisure in Cathedral Square, instead.

The walking tour focused on area surrounding the tower. As entrance to tower itself was pre-booked to manage crowd control, sufficient time was given to both climb the tower and to take in the view from the top before descending. One challenge - where as most of the tour leaders had a very visible identifying symbol, our tour leaders only wore a lanyard identifying company's name making it difficult to find them in the crowd as majority of participants were arrivals from cruise ship and did not have struggle to find out where to go. For those of us who walked to meet the starting point, it was difficult to assess as area very crowded.

One of the highlights of my trip! We took the train from Florence to Pisa, which cost 10 Euros each way. Train ride was around an hour, then we walked to the city center, which took about 20 minutes. The tour was great and gave us insight into the history of Pisa. Going up in the Leaning Tower was incredible!

We really enjoyed our walking tour. We learned a little of the people of Pisa, who fled to Sardinia, beautiful area concentrated around the leaning tower.
