The tour guide is wonderful. He is very knowledgable and well experienced. We still enjoy the trip very much although the weather is not very good.
My wife and I were really glad we booked the Portland and waterfalls tour. We would not have been able to see and cover as much on our own. Ron Davies, our tour Director, was great. He shared his knowledge about the area with us and did extra things to make the experience even better. This was our second Viator tour. We definitely hope to do more.
The weather was terrible for most of the trip, but the scenery and level of information from our guide Tom meant that it didn't really matter. Multnomah Falls are breathtaking, as was the view from the Pittock Mansion and the Rose Garden.
One hidden aspect of this tour is the small size of the groups. We were part of a 6 person group. I am not sure if they are all this size, but I got the feeling that it is set up this way for many of the tours. I felt I received a great overview of Portland. I also felt that I got to see some of the important waterfalls of the Columbia Gorge. Because of the size of the group our guide, Tom, was able to adjust to our interests and the weather. It was a bit wet, but not less enjoyable.
This was the last city on our "bucket list" in the U.S. We had a fantastic tour guide, Rich, (who was on time to meet us) and was very personable and knowledgeable about Portland and the falls. We even went to a "secret falls" he had found, but will not tell! All the sites were provided with ample time to visit everything. Lunch time was provided near the food carts, if you wished or Starbucks is up the street one block. We had no idea we would see so much, as we had a lot on our list and this tour covers everything. Rich covered all the historical factors and made the tour very interesting. The people on our tour were also very friendly and it was interesting learning about where they came from. Thank you, Rich, for making our stay in Portland as memorable one.
We always book through Viator, as they are always dependable and you get what the tour states
This was a great tour of Portland, Oregon. My guide was very knowledgeable and he explained a lot about Portland on the city tour morning half. We went to two mansions and the international rose test center and he explained a lot about how the town was formed and the people who contributed to Portland's development. He also gave restaurant recommendations and a good overview of the city in general. The drawback was on the city tour there were a lot of people...probably too many for the van we were driving around in. Several passengers complained about the cramped conditions (which I admit was a problem) and their inability to hear the guide when we were driving around and providing commentary. The van probably needed back speakers so the guide could be heard better. After a stop for lunch, the tour really took off and we headed toward the Columbia Gorge Waterfalls. Only about four of us were on this part of the tour, so it made it easier for the tour guide to provide his great commentary and take us to some of the best spots. The only problem was the Waterfalls were extremely crowded and one time we lost track of the guide. However, this was brief and after finding him, he took us to some areas of the Waterfalls that were fantastic to see and lightly trafficked. Overall, a great orientation tour of Portland, Oregon and the Waterfalls. I highly recommend it. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
This was the best tour I have been on. Our tour guide, Tom, was right on time and very informative and personable. We had plenty of time to experience every stop on the tour. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Portland and Oregon itself! He enjoyed answering our questions and knew so much about each place he showed us. The waterfalls were absolutely beautiful! Our trip to Oregon was a fact-finding trip for us to possibly relocate in the future (we live in Miami, FL). We plan to return in February and see more of Oregon and will definitely book another Viator tour. We hope Tom will still be available to show us more of Portland (we want to see the weather everyone keeps telling us about). However, I doubt the weather will dim the beauty of this place.
Good itinerary. Excellent guide Tom : knowledgable and entertaining.
Our tour of downtown Portland and the Columbia Gorge Waterfalls was fantastic!! Our tour guide, Gunter (sp?), was extremely knowledgeable and admitted to many little "secrets" and fun facts along the way. We would highly recommend this tour to all of our friends!! We also ended up with a really fun couple from N. Carolina as well as a couple from New Jersey that rounded out our experience.
Great day, guide was friendly and very informative. Shown me the beautiful nature as well as the city of Portland. Recommended!
This was a great tour. We were able to see the city and hear about the history. It was fun to break for lunch in a local neighborhood and stroll the area. The afternoon at the gorge was refreshing. The views were spectacular and the falls beautiful. You need to carry water with you for the afternoon short hikes. I would recommend this tour to anyone going to Portland. Gilda Everett, NC
A great tour, and Tom, our driver/guide went out of his way to make the trip memorable.
It was an amazing tour! We had a friendly and knowledgeable tour guide, and I loved the small group. I wish my husband could have been with us, but I had such a good time, if we get up that way again together, I think I'll go ahead with him. Angela from TN
portland was great. our tour went very well. we had a hotel pick up and drop off. the waterfall tour was worth the price alone. the city tour was nice but rushed. i think the weather in portland can make or break whether any tour. the day we toured it was wonderful. the only negative was that our pick up at the hotel was 1 hour late. it is a city with lots of traffic and i guess things happen. thanks norman edwards
