Your 10-hour trip begins early with hotel pickup from downtown Portland. You'll embark in a luxury vehicle for an exhilarating morning drive through the Columbia River Gorge. Admire the rugged beauty of the Cascade Mountains as you head east along the river, and glimpse a waterfall or two as your expert guide provides some context to the region’s natural history. Stop for nature walks, viewing flora, fauna and remarkable local geology. These light walks offer a great opportunity to explore and capture some great photos.
Your eastward journey heads into the Gorge wine region, where the dry eastern desert climate melds with the cool moisture from Pacific coast to create a landscape prime for growing grapes. As you approach Hood River, stop at select wineries such as Cathedral Ridge and Wy'East Vineyards to meet local winemakers and taste unique varietals only found in Oregon.
Stop for a delicious lunch in Hood River (see Itinerary section below for a sample menu) before continuing south to Mount Hood, whose glorious peak earns the designation of Oregon’s tallest at 11,249 feet (3,429 meters) high. At Mount Hood, take a self-guided mountain walk, explore the fish-laden streams or visit Timberline Lodge, the renovated hotel that was once the setting for the classic film The Shining.
End your day of waterfalls, wineries, and mountains with a relaxing ride back to your hotel in Portland.
Note: Wine tasting only available from May to September.
