What You Can Expect

Douro Valley Small-Group Tour with Wine Tasting, Portuguese Lunch and Optional River Cruise

Enjoy tasting different wines on this tour to two Portuguese wine regions

Leave your Porto hotel in the morning and travel inland to the Douro Valley by air-conditioned minivan. After a journey of roughly 90 minutes, you’ll arrive in Peso da Régua, the valley’s capital, where you'll stop to soak in your first impression of the valley.

If you’ve opted to include a boat ride with your tour, you’ll be dropped off in Pinhão for a leisurely 1-hour cruise along the Douro River. Aboard a rabelo boat — a traditional cargo boat native to this region — travel up the Tua river tributary and pass by Quinta da Romaneira before returning back to Pinhão.

Alternatively, you can choose to spend time exploring the beautiful village of Pinhão independently. A highlight is the Pinhão train station, known for its pretty blue-and-white tile murals that depict the scenic Douro landscapes and vineyard workers.

Stop to enjoy a traditional Portuguese lunch with specialties accompanied with local wine.

Continue your tour to two family-run wine estates nestled in the gloriously remote countryside, a setting that offers a glimpse into the way of life in Douro. Learn about local winemaking as you sample various ports and wines, and then explore the shop for treats to take home with you.

After a full day experiencing the Douro Valley, relax on the drive back to your Porto hotel, arriving in the early evening.

fantastic. Look no further ........... We spent hours searching for tours and trips and finally chose this one. A great decision. It met , and exceeded, all our hopes and expectations. Variety, comfort, interest, professionalism of our guide Peter , choice of places to visit ....... I could go on and on. Suffice to say that this tour was everything we wanted and we highly recommend it.

I did the Douro valley tour with them.
It was the perfect tour. Much, much better than what I have expected, even after reading all the good reviews on TA and Viator.

Our tour guide was Pedro. Hed did an exceptional job. Very passionately he told us everything about the region, portugal
and the wine and port.

It never became boring and thats for sure, I learned a lot. His english can't get better and you could here him very good even in the last row of the van.

Yes, there is quite some driving in this tour involved, however the scenery was simply beautiful.

Wine tasting: two wonderful small estates visited.
No tour hells at all, where they chase touist through from morning to evening like cattle.

One with a museum part, all guided by the owner/wine maker himself. The other inside an antique fabric where they still brew their portwine.

At both places wine tastings of different table wines, at the second one as well an extensive port tasting, with a lot of different port wines....
...and let me tell you, they didn't hide the bottle, so you can do en extensive tasting if you want -

Only poor Pedro had to stick to water as designated driver.

Lunch was awesome - a small restaurant that locals go to - providing quality local food. There was a meat and a fish dish with rice and patatos. All left at the table to share. The fish dish was actually octopus!!! Soo good...includes as well white and red wine as well to share with refills provided when needed.

I didn't even need dinner after that lunch.

You have the option to book a boat tour for a couple of euros on the douro river. I would go for that - It's beautiful out there and you have great photo spots.

The only negative I can think of: they put the maximum seats in their minivans for sure, so when you are on a fully booked tour it can be a bit cramped, but there are frequent stops to strech your legs.

I can only highly recommed this excellent tour....and the value...you get here a lot for your money.

My sisters and I did this tour on August 10th, 2015, and it really ended being one of the highlights of our trip to Portugal. Our tour guide, Alex, was very friendly and super funny he also speaks English perfectly. Alex was very knowledgable and passionate about the tour, having grown up in the Douro Valley himself.

You visit two vineyards and have several tastings at each location with very hefty pours, so pace yourself. Lunch was good, but the small food platter set out for us at the Port Wine vineyard tasting was really wonderful, and I actually would have preferred just that over the lunch. We also took the river cruise, which was relaxing and gives you a beautiful view of the valley.

Would definitely recommend this tour to fellow travelers, and ask for Alex!!!

Our guide Alex was local and very knowledgeable and friendly. All aspects of the tour were good, and we visited smaller independent wine and port producers which gave a very personal touch. The boat trip is a worthwhile addition to see the unusual scenery close up.

Great tour and overall experience! We were only in Porto for about 3 days, but we were happy to spend the day in the Douro Valley. Our guide was fantastic and had a great sense of humour. He was very accommodating. The two local wineries provided great tastings. It was hard to stop yourself from buying more bottles of wine or olive oil!

We had a great tour in the Douro Valley with wine tasting and visiting local small producers. Our guide Ms Barbara Silva picked us up from the hotel and off we went. On the way she explained about the region, wine producing and took care of all of us very kindly and attentive. We had a full day of tasing not only the wine but most of all the ambiance of the Douro region. I can really recommend this tour!

I loved this tour. Alex was great. The wineries Quintas he took us were fantastic and I wish I had more room on my luggage to bring more of the amazing wine we tasted. The restaurant was great and the boat cruise was the perfect way to see the Douro. Bring some sunscreen and enjoy the Douro! Thank you Alex for the wonderful time!

This tour was an excellent day trip not only beautiful but very informative. Our guide, Jose, was upbeat and full of facts from the moment he picked us up at our hotel at 8:30am, until he dropped us off around 5:30pm. We loved sampling the olive oils, wines, and ports, and felt like our tour 4 of us and 3 others allowed us to get a feel for how things were done in that region hundreds of years ago by boutique artisans.
The car ride to/from Porto was a big concern of mine 1-1.5hrs each way but Jose helped the time pass quickly as he discussed on wine-making, Portuguese history, agriculture, climate, and many great little facts that kept everyone engaged.
I cannot recommend this tour enough for those who want a tour of the Douro valley. Thank you Jose.

We thought this was an excellent day! We had the most fabulous tour guide - Nuno! He was professionally dressed engaged with us and our tour mates provided lots of great information enthusiastic about his work and his country. He made the day so enjoyable, educational and fun!. We loved the Douro Valley the boat ride and the port tastings. We also really enjoyed having lunch with what appeared to be locals or Portuguese tourists - delicious food - pork, cod, salad and drunk cake. very fun! We were so pleased! It was a day that we will always remember.
