This tour exceeded all expectations! Our tour guide,Nuno, was extremely knowledgable about Portuguese culture and history and acted as the perfect ambassador. All of the little stops on the way, culminating with the incredibly welcoming family vineyard tour of Quinta do Jalloto was a picturesque ending
Had a fabulous day out in the Douro Valley with this tour. All of the logistics were so easy, getting picked up at our hotel and taken care of for the rest of the day. Our guide Pedro made the day, we felt safe with his driving through the winding roads towards the valley, especially in the tricky weather conditions we had in the morning before the sun came out. He was kind, funny and went the extra mile (literally) to show us the best of the valley and the best tasting experiences. He went above and beyond, he truly cares about his country and the region and that comes across. Highly recommend this trip for anyone wanting to get out of the city for a day and see the surrounding beauty of the region.....while tasting and learning about the great Port produced here.
Pedro was an excellent guide! He was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and brought us to some wonderful places! Quinta da Foz was a beautiful winery and the guide there was also wonderful. The boat ride is beautiful, and the drive in is extremely scenic. Great food included, and wonderful port all day long. Couldn't recommend this trip highly enough!
We had one day in the North of Portugal and really wanted to tour the Douro Valley. Cooltours was recommended on-line so we booked a tour. We toured in early Nov 2013 which is not the best time for weather. Pedro came to pick us up at our hotel - and from start to days end he gave us the most memorable day of our whole trip. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about Portuguese history and the history of the Douro Valley and its wine and Port. He answered endless questions and was eager to share the true authentic Portuguese experience with us. We did the boat on the Douro river - highly recommended as it gets you up close and personal with the vineyard landscaping and deeper feeling for the Valley from the river's perspective. Lunch was delicious and we were treated like queens and we were lucky enough to be able to try many Portuguese dishes accompanied by Muscat, Portuguese wines(best kept secret) and of course the Port. The end of the day was capped off with a personalized tour of a Quinta. Our experience on this tour was definitely due to Pedro and his friendly personality, humor and his eagerness to provide his guests with the best Portuguese experience so that the tourist leaves with an experience beyond their expectations resulting in only one problem: it fills you with the desire to return to the Douro Valley:) Thank you Pedro!!! Well organized tour with a very knowledgable and kind tour guide whose name is Paula. . We have seen all the destinations that we would like to see around the area. We also enjoyed very much of the boat trip and the delicious food at the local restaurant of Douro region. Winery that we have visited was very traditional and well guided. We are very appreciate to take this tour.
This tour was fabulous, I would highly recommend it to anyone. Our driver Pedro picked us up at our hotel, on time and we were on our way to an amazing adventure. I had read reviews about the driving of some of the tour guides and how scary it was. Our driver Pedro was very cautious and the 4 of us never felt worried about our safety. He did an amazing job sharing the Douro Valley with us. We had a private tasting at a Vineyard that was over 100 years old. He stopped frequently to show us views of the country, specialty shops, points of interest and picture taking. We thoroughly enjoyed a boat trip down the Douro River and lunch was included at a local restaurant that sits right on the river. We just returned home and brought back with us so many beautiful pictures and memories of our day spent with Pedro in the Douro Valley. I give this tour 6 Stars!!!
My wife and I went on the Douro Valley Small-Group Tour and enjoyed it very much. This was one of the best tours we have been on. The content and itinerary for this one day tour was well planned and included site seeing, a boat trip, lunch and a wine quinta visit with wine tasting. The tour was made even better by our guide, Pedro. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and made us feel very comfortable and at home during the tour. On top of that Pedro was punctual and drove very carefully and safely which we really appreciated. Many thanks to Pedro for an excellent day and a job well done. We would highly recommend this tour.

We had a really great time on this tour - we loved Pedro who spent every minute of 11 hours doing everything possible to make our trip fun and special - from picking us up at our apartment to driving superbly on narrow, winding roads, stopping for "port" stops, waiting on us at lunch....boat ride, visits to port cellars, lunch, wine, port again....all fantastic and included in the modest price. And the Douru valley itself was spectacular. Really a great tour and well worth it, to say the least!
A wonderful, varied day in the most beautiful part of Portugal. The leader was a good communicator and gave us all a great time
Pedro and Miguel were awesome host and guides. My wife, mother in law and I had a truly wonderful experience touring the Douro river valley and will do it again the next time we are in Porto! If you are going to be in the Porto region of Portugal this is a "must do". Thanks! That was a great trip!
Fabulous~ loved the trip, Pedro was exceptional! Beautiful area, and a wonderful experience.
We had a great day and an excellent time. Lunch was delicious and the river cruise was very nice. Our guide went out of his way to make sure we had an authentic experience!
This tour was AMAZING! We confirmed our tour the night before as requested, and our tour guide, Nuno, arrived exactly on time. The Douro Valley is a bit of a drive from Porto, but with beautiful scenery. In addition, it gave our guide time to talk about various aspects of Portugal. Other reviews suggested that the drivers were kind of crazy, but Nuno was extremely careful - for example honking (or flashing lights at night) around the many hair-pin turns. This made us all feel safer. For the tour itself, I was expecting to go to a few wineries over the course of the day, however much of the beginning part of the day was touring around the small towns in the valley on the way to the wineries. This was actually probably BETTER than just drinking wine, as we were able to learn more about the history and see more of the area. The boat tour was nice, but happened for us around 2pm, so be sure to grab a snack at one of the stops before the boat, or you'll be hungry. We stopped for lunch at a small, wonderful restaurants and our guide had arranged everything for us - we ate family style (i.e. sharing plates), and it was great. Delicious food. Next stop was the winery - we were there on a state holiday, so many were closed but the one we went too was quite nice (Quinta de la Rosa). However, while we were there, our guide made some calls and the next stop was a very small winery nearby, one that didn't do as many tours Quinta de Val da Figueira. The host was so friendly and gracious, and his port was exquisite, and with amazing views of the valley. Just as an aside, the two wineries we visited are not really set up to send large quantities back to the States, so we were only able to buy a small number of bottles that we could pack in our luggage. I'm running out of space/characters, but I cannot say enough about our guide Nuno. So friendly, knowledgeable, gracious, really loves his job, and joined us for dinner back in Porto. It was such a pleasure meeting him!
We had a fantastic time on the Douro Valley Tour - our guide Ines was friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. Wonderful day filled with gorgeous landscapes, rich history and delicious Port. The traditional Portuguese lunch was another highlight. I would definitely recommend this tour!
