We were only in Porto for 2 days and wanted to see as much of the region as possible. This was a great tour , we had plenty to drink and eat and the views were magnificent. We were supposed to do the river cruise but due to weather and risky river conditions we visited another winery which was a good substitute. Our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. We were only 4 people on the tour plus the guide which was a very nice size. I highly recommend this tour.
Absolutely one of the best tours I've ever taken (several in my lifetime). Pedro picked us up at our apartment, introduced himself and off we went. He is very knowledgeable and made the first part of the journey comfortable given the length of the drive to get to the starting point. Pedro was able to answer our questions and since we booked in the winter time had a few Plan B locations as a couple of the organized mini-tours are only available in the Summer. Won't disclose the locations :) but they were definitely worth seeing. Thanks to CoolTours and Pedro for a great time! - Aaron, Jessica, Maddie and 'Mom'
The trip was very good , the guide Pedro was excellent !!!! He made our day , in fact he made our whole holiday. There was nothing to fault as far as I am concerned , as there was PLENTY of wine and port sampling , lots of stops to take photos, lunch was a really good surprise , and the coffee and cake stops outstanding.Short boat ride a bonus, especially meeting our american friends ,the Goldsteins. Also Pedro´s driving is as safe as the hills , and we felt really relaxed all day long.Muinto obrigado Pedro and " Cooltour" for this great day.Clive (group of 4) ...and also not to forget the door to door pick up @ hotel
I was in Porto for just 3 days and wanted to get out and see a bit more than just the city. That in mind, let me say that this was exactly what I was looking for. The beautiful Duoro Valley is in my mind an unmissable part of the experience, and I'd argue this may be the best way to see it.
On this trip, our guide made decisions such as where to eat and what wine tasting to attend based on the quality of service, product quality and authenticity, and his personal experiences at the locations. I think this is important to note so that you know you'll be getting the very best experience that your guide is able to offer, even if there are changes to the itinerary for unforeseen reasons.
Pick up was timely by our driver and guide, Nuno. During the several hour car journey, he spoke all about the history of Porto, it's architecture, famous figures in Portuguese history, different cultural influences of the area, and so much more; all the while safely navigating the winding roads.
We stopped at a cafe after an hour or so into the journey. We were informed when lunch would be (2:00-ish) so we could plan accordingly then. We were taken to several lookout points, prior to embarking on the 45 min boat tour. From there we had lunch at an authentic eatery, sampling many dishes and two table wines. Their 'Plan A' winery was unavailable on this day, so we were taken to 'Plan B' which offered us 3-4 samples of port as well as a private tour of their cellars. Afterwards, before making the trip home, we stopped at Pinhao Train Station where Nuno talked about the historic painted tiles that make this station a national heritage site.
I can't envision anyone having a negative opinion of this experience unless they didn't allow themselves to enjoy the moment. You'll be getting carted around gorgeous landscapes with the intent of learning about port wine, but really learning more about what it means to be Portuguese. Great cultural immersion. Thank you for the experience.
I have been living in Europe for over a year and generally enjoy a good tour and have been on a number of them. This Douro Valley Small-Group Tour was undoubtedly the most enjoyable. The tour consisted of my husband, three daughters (in their early twenties) and myself. We were picked up at our hotel by our two guides, José Pedro David (Ze) and Pepe Anibal Rocha Rodrigues (Pedro). It actually did feel as if two close friends had joined us to share a day in the Douro Valley … The tour was informative but also conversational and full of laughter. Ze and Pedro were improvisational guides who showed us a wide range of life in a more traditional Portugal from the production of olive oil (as introduced by the Romans) to a delicious lunch in a village square, to an award winning winery that is still family-run and has been so for over three generations. We toured the vineyard lined with olive and orange trees to enhance the flavor of the grape. It has been said that Portugal never abandoned organic farming … and the sights and tastes of this tour underscored that. We finished a wonderful day having (more) wine as well as appetizers in a home that was built early in the 19th century century adjacent to the vinyard as well as the family chapel. An incredible day that I wish to highly recommend to fellow travelers who are thinking of visiting this enchanting region of Portugal!
Замечательная экскурсия, очень заботливый гид Педро. Прекрасный маршрут и великолепно проведенный день!
We had an excellent time on our tour, wine tasting, and river cruise!
We had a great time. Pedro was a terrific guide, humorous, interesting, and real. The winery tour was informative, and the river cruise was relaxing and pleasant.
This was a small group tour to the head of the Douro River Port Vineyards. The initial journey was too long nearly three hours in a small van, over some not to clever road surfaces. Prior notice of this fact may have led me to take the train for comfort and picked up the trip at Pinhao. That said our guide/tour leader was exceptional. Seek out Pietro Rodrigues who was outstanding throughout the tour of nearly 12 hours. He has selected excellent Port and Wine samples to fortify us for the journey, selected an excellent restaurant for lunch and a great vineyard tour (Quinta de Foz). Overall a great trip and a MUST DO!
Our Guide Nuno was fantastic. He was very personable, professional, and knowledgeable. The tour was beautiful, the lunch was fantastic, and the boat trip on the Douro was lovely.
This trip was fabulous. It exceeded our expectations. The tour leader, Pedro Rodrigues, was absolutely fantastic.
This tour trip requires driving into the mountains of the Douro Vally, Pedro's driving was extremely safe. Portugal's roads are tight and windy and he navigated our small group tour bus with calm and professional driving. He provided us with great scenic stops and the best experience with Port Wine Tasting as well as learning how it is made at a very quaint "Quinta". We had a great lunch and a wonderful river cruise in Douro..
Highly recommend this trip.
We were only four,us and two French friends who had no English. We asked for a French speaking guide who was excellent. His knowledge of the area and it's history was amazing. I cannot recommend this tour more highly. If you go to Porto this is a must. The scenery is awesome. The small restaurant provided an excellent meal and the visit to a cave and wine tasting was lovely, as was the grape treading!!
Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! What a great day! What a beautiful Valley ... so beautiful in some parts that I had tears in my eyes from the picturesque view before me! The guide, Piedro was friendly, fun and knowledgeable! The River Cruise was a perfect touch. It was one of my best days in Portugal!
This tour exceeded all expectations! Our tour guide,Nuno, was extremely knowledgable about Portuguese culture and history and acted as the perfect ambassador. All of the little stops on the way, culminating with the incredibly welcoming family vineyard tour of Quinta do Jalloto was a picturesque ending
