So much fun! Even in the rain we had a great time. Learned a lot about the region, had some amazing olive oil and port, a terrific lunch with our bus full of new friends, and just generally enjoyed the amazing scenery. Our tour-guide was absolutely lovely! It is a full day though, so wear comfortable travel clothes/shoes.
We had a great day in the Duoro Valley. The wineries were small scale, excellent wine and vintners that enjoyed showing us their methods passed on for generations. Well worth it. Highly recommended.
Tour guide -Babara is very knowledgable and funny. Really nice to have her as our guide. The group is very small and very personal. The lunch serving is fantastic and the wine tasting is marvelous. Very generous with their wine tasting and lots of finger food being served. Really worth for dollars.
We had a wonderful time on this tour. Our guide, Piedro, was very personable as well as knowledgeable. He took us to very special places for the tastings and for the lunch -- smaller, family-owned establishments where the owners shared with us their passion for growing grapes, olives, honey in the beautiful Douro Valley -- turning them into very high-quality products as their parents and grand-parents did before them. The river cruise also gave us a wonderful perspective on the Douro Valley landscape, with its carefully tended terraced hillsides. The small-group concept works very well and by the end of the day we felt like one big happy family.
The tour was excellent helped along by an extremely good guide who not only knew Portuguese history but also knew a lot about wine and Port. The tour was well planned and the food at lunch was authentic Portuguese country cooking. My wife and I enjoyed the tour of the small wineries and the private Port, olive oil and table wine tastings. This was accompanied by Pedro's (our guide) very knowledgeable commentary on the steps involved in olive oil and port production with a rundown of the various types of Port, port houses and port history. We highly recommend the local tour Company and our guide Pedro.
The tour was great! We really had a good time! The tour guide (Jose) was amazing. He told us lots of interesting things during the tour.He was full of energy and he looks like he is enjoying what he is doing which makes the whole tour very enjoyable. The boat ride was nice and the lunch was super!
Great tour! Made even more enjoyable thanks to Pedro, a very knowledgeable, pleasant and careful driver. He made the tour even more special. We enjoyed being part of a small group - more pleasant than being herded like a flock of sheep as is the case with many coach trips. The two visits to oil/port small producers were very interesting and we enjoyed the port tasting. Despite the rain the 1 h boat trip on the Douro was very pleasant. As for the lunch in Pinhao we were served dish after dish of excellent Portuguese food. We thoroughly recommend this trip, we certainly enjoyed it!
The trip was most enjoyable. Our tour guide was very enthusiastic and knew a lot about the area and its history. The pace was perfect and the scenery just beautiful.
Loved it all from the great tour guide Peidro to olive oil tasting, wine tasting, boat ride and food! A great experience. Highly recommended.
Great trip, personable knowledgable driver/ guide, good wine, wonderful scenery
My friends, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our Douro Valley tour. We were joined by two other couples - one Australian, the other Americans - we enjoyed meeting and spending the day with them. Our driver/guide - Ines (Inez??) was excellent - she spoke English perfectly; she knew Portuguese history and, more particularly, Douro history - and was able to answer our many questions. She was also very charming and made all of us feel very welcome and comfortable. The tour itself was everything we could have asked for - interesting, scenic; the wines and olive oils we tasted were very good. And, the lunch - with many different dishes - was simply outstanding. I would highly recommend this tour. Five stars!!
Great tour! Beautiful views on the drive through the Douro area. Great stops at the olive oil farm and wineries. Funny and informed tour guides, Pedro and Barbara. Great addition to the trip!
This is an outstanding tour. Ricardo was a great guide, and the day was very well organized. The visits to the small vineyards were especially good and the boat trip, fun. Lunch was one of the best we had in Portugal.
The tour was one of the highlights of my trip to Portugal. The Douro Valley is beautiful, and not to be missed. Our guide, Pedro, was very knowledgeable and engaging. The pacing of the tour was great; it was relaxing, yet did not lag at any point. The visits to the wineries were very informative and the sampling helped to illustrate the differences between the different port wines.
great trip with highly informative guide. On the trip you are able to try food that you would certainly never see or try in Portugal.....and there is loads of it so bring your appetite. Our group of 6 made it less than half-way through the offerings! You are also able to see the contrast of both a large port producer and a small local producer. Going to both was a great opportunity - the views at the larger are amazing, and the special local producer is a terrific experience. The entire tour from pickup to drop-off takes closer to 11 hours but the time really flies. Enjoy!
