What You Can Expect

Douro Valley Wine Tour from Porto Including Lunch

Taste some of the best Portuguese wines on this day trip from Porto!

Leave your central Porto hotel by luxury coach and travel inland to Douro Valley, roughly 1.5 hours away. The area is famous for its scenic landscapes, so sit back and admire the scenery, typified by remote mountains, emerald hills and UNESCO-listed hilltop villages.

Idyllic as it is, the region’s main draw is its wine not the countryside, and, luckily for you, your first stop is one of the valley’s prized adegas. Head inside Quinta do Seixo located in Cima-corgo, the heart of the Douro Valley and take a tour of its cellars. After seeing where the wines are produced, bottled and stored, sample some of the estate’s wares noting the different tones and aromas with your guide.

Move to Regua and visit a nearby local restaurant for lunch and enjoy traditional dishes that originated in Douro Valley. Savor a delicious 3-course meal, featuring fish or meat, with a glass of locally produced wine, and then hop back on board your coach.

Continue traveling deeper into Douro Valley to Quinta do Tedo – an 18th-century adega surrounded by terraced vineyards stacked into the hillside. A small producer, the estate specializes in Port, the fortified wine for which Portugal is famous. Explore the cellars, sample a glass of their gutsy Port, and then shop for a bottle to take home, if you wish.

Relax on the journey back to central Porto, finishing your tour at your hotel in the early evening.

Fantastic day. Our guide Juan was amazing and great company. He was incredibly knowledgeable and took us to some amazing vineyards and eating places. The river trip was a lovely addition and the views of the duoro valley are stunning. We have already recommended the trip to friends! Roz and John

This trip was great! I went with three girlfriends and we had a blast. The valley is beautiful and loved the two wineries. Learned a lot about port wine. Lunch was delicious and the boat cruise was a nice break during the day. Also our guide was very knowledgable and taught us a lot of Porto. Highly recommended!

I wrote a whole review, and the Viator site ate it. So here it is in a nutshell:
1 Great way to see Douro Valley without renting a car.
2 Sophia the tour guide is amazing and speaks many languages fluently.
3 Lunch is not hotdogs and Fritos, but a four course affair including wine and dessert, in a nice restaurant overlooking the Douro River.
4 River cruise was fun
5 Wineries were architecturally interesting and had many wine tasting options.
Absolutely recommend, especially for people who speak limited Portuguese.

My friend and I had a very relaxing day touring the Douro Valley and sampling lots of wine. We learned so much about the process of making port and the different types. Our guide Joao went above and beyond and made the tour that much better.

Great huide - Jaou - gave us the relevant history and as he was a professional, lots of interesting things about the region and wine.

Considering we got:

1. Pick up and drop off to our door
2. 2 x wineries
3. Lunch
4. Cruise

It was an absolutely excellent day. It was worth the 95, which by European standards is really nothing at all. The group was small and intimate. We had a last minute change from a larger winery to a smaller one called Quinta do Tejo, which ended up being the highlight of the day. Especially the port wines I bought there - they were the best I've ever had. I've never had port so smooth. The thing is, because it was so small, you had to buy at the cellar door only - they didn't distribute it really anywhere outside of the Quinta. So ask if you can go back there when you book this.

1st - our guide, Sophia, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the subject. Not to mention her excellent driving skills that is very important in this area.
2nd - the tour to the Douro valley is very interesting and relaxing experience. Accounting to the wine tastings there are two of them and serpentine narrow roads, there is no other choice to visit the area and taste the port at its origins place.
3rd - the description of tour doesn't mention it but there is the river cruise on the boat after the lunch. It's cool and refreshing with multiple opportunities to make nice landscape photos.
4th - lunch is surprisingly good for the tour included event. The table wine is good and they will bring more if you drunk the bottle out. Don't choose the beans with entrails if you're not accustomed to such food as cooked pork stomach etc.
5th - wines in the winery shops are cheaper than in stores thus you may buy the nice souvenir. Good quality port is very expensive even there sometime few hundred euros. But they have very good Moscatels not too sweet and fortified as the port at the discount price sometimes.

The tour was great. Our tour guide, Sophia, was fantastic. She made us all feel very welcomed and comfortable. Her knowledge of the history of the Duoro Valley and ability to explain it in several languages was amazing. I would definitely recommend this tour. Ask for Sophia!!!
