We loved the tour! It's a bit pricey for what we got, especially tasting-wise, but we had a great time and loved Pedro, our guide. Definitely recommend it!
I had a wonderful time on our tour of the Douro Valley. This is a must for anyone who has an interest in learning more about the wine, terroir, and culture of this beautiful region. Our guide, Joao, was very informative and created a lovely experience for us. A great day with a lovely group!
This tour was definitely the highlight of our 12 day Portugal trip. When we first looked at booking our trip to Porto, Algarve and Lisbon we read that a Douro Valley Wine Tour was a must so we started researching online and came across this tour for 8 people with a Douro River Cruise but we unable to get it for the date we wanted so we booked the one with lunch. We booked this from Canada and we a little nervous that everything would be booked when we arrived in Portugal. We had nothing to worry about as everything was looked after, and to our surprised we were getting the original tour we looked at. Our guide Juan John was the best and made the trip so informative and enjoyable. The fact that another group was touring with us made the friendly competition so much more fun. We learned so much about Douro Valley Wines and Ports as well as some of the history of the area. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area. We travel a great deal and would definitely use Viator tours again. Thank you Juan
We had a brilliant day. Pascal was awesome, he had lots of knowlege about the region and about Portugals history. We had our three year old daughter with us and Pascal kept her interested the whole day by joking around and doing a treasure hunt with her. The wine tastings were fun, as was the boatcruise. Lunch was nice too. The views were spectacular, even though it was raining.
The tour was great even though the weather didn't cooperate initially. Our tour guide, Luis, was great - very friendly and worked really hard to make sure you were comfortable and we're having a great time. The tour included two wine estate tours, a nice 3 course lunch and a boat trip on the Duoro river. The first tour was a bit more commercial with a standard walk through the wine cellars and then to the wine tasting room. We had four tastes all of which were good but nothing exceptional. Then we went to a restaurant along the Duoro river. The food was delicious and we definitely were full after the meal. We then took a short boat ride along the river were we could see a number of vineyards along the banks. The weather improved duo g the afternoon and it was a very pleasant way to digest and enjoy the view. Then it was onto the second vineyard which was a very old family owned business with multiple generations involved. This tour was better than the first with the tour guide giving a more detailed tour, sharing more information about the wine making business and the family. The wine tasting was again four different type of Porto wine, some of which were very good. We ended up buying some from this vineyard. We headed back to Porto traveling along the river and through some narrow road along the cliffs. Overall a great day. My only complaint was that the van was not much better than a shuttle bus one takes to the airport. It was not luxury transportation. It was ok for comfort but given the price, I think that the ride out and back could have been a bit better.
The best wine tasting tour ever, pascal made it fun nice lovely full of information as much as the two wine place we visit were excellent. Thank you pascal for this lovely day.
My friend and I had a wonderful time on this tour. Our guide gave us a great historical and cultural review of the Douro valley region as well as many personal notes that truly enhanced the trip. Overall, the entire trip rose above expectations. From the wineries, to the lunch and river cruise, the design of the day was well thought out and fun.
The trip didn't get off to the best start due to the guide being an hour late, however he took it upon himself to more than make-up for the delay. Speaking in English and French we were given a wonderful lesson on the River Douro wine industry from past to present along the way to the heart of the beautiful Douro Valley.
We had a morning tasting of fortified wines with stops offs to view the magnificent vista, followed by a three course lunch and hour boat cruise along the river, which isn't advertised on the trip overview. The afternoon was a second tasting and due to his lateness our guide rounded the day off with a visit to Sandemans, which although advertised is not actually on the tour anymore.
All in all we found the trip good value, enjoyable, informative, nice small group and the River Douro and surround is simply stunning, it's an absolute must!
One of the best tours that I did. It was a wonderful experience!
This was definitely the highlight of our 8 day trip to Portugal. Our guide was beyond amazing and the scenery the wine - EVERYTHING was incredible. The Douro Valley is absolutely something no traveller to Portugal should miss!
Excellent. Tour guide Yori was so very well knowledgeable and engaging. Good driver all through. Very respectful. Small group size made it very cohesive. Will love to use service again in other countries if available.
Viator is excellent!
Excellent value for money, and an extremely helpful and friendly tour guide. Big thumbs up from me!
Fantastic day. Our guide Juan was amazing and great company. He was incredibly knowledgeable and took us to some amazing vineyards and eating places. The river trip was a lovely addition and the views of the duoro valley are stunning. We have already recommended the trip to friends! Roz and John
This trip was great! I went with three girlfriends and we had a blast. The valley is beautiful and loved the two wineries. Learned a lot about port wine. Lunch was delicious and the boat cruise was a nice break during the day. Also our guide was very knowledgable and taught us a lot of Porto. Highly recommended!
I wrote a whole review, and the Viator site ate it. So here it is in a nutshell:
1 Great way to see Douro Valley without renting a car.
2 Sophia the tour guide is amazing and speaks many languages fluently.
3 Lunch is not hotdogs and Fritos, but a four course affair including wine and dessert, in a nice restaurant overlooking the Douro River.
4 River cruise was fun
5 Wineries were architecturally interesting and had many wine tasting options.
Absolutely recommend, especially for people who speak limited Portuguese.
My friend and I had a very relaxing day touring the Douro Valley and sampling lots of wine. We learned so much about the process of making port and the different types. Our guide Joao went above and beyond and made the tour that much better.
Great huide - Jaou - gave us the relevant history and as he was a professional, lots of interesting things about the region and wine.
Considering we got:
1. Pick up and drop off to our door
2. 2 x wineries
It was an absolutely excellent day. It was worth the 95, which by European standards is really nothing at all. The group was small and intimate. We had a last minute change from a larger winery to a smaller one called Quinta do Tejo, which ended up being the highlight of the day. Especially the port wines I bought there - they were the best I've ever had. I've never had port so smooth. The thing is, because it was so small, you had to buy at the cellar door only - they didn't distribute it really anywhere outside of the Quinta. So ask if you can go back there when you book this.

1st - our guide, Sophia, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the subject. Not to mention her excellent driving skills that is very important in this area.
2nd - the tour to the Douro valley is very interesting and relaxing experience. Accounting to the wine tastings there are two of them and serpentine narrow roads, there is no other choice to visit the area and taste the port at its origins place.
3rd - the description of tour doesn't mention it but there is the river cruise on the boat after the lunch. It's cool and refreshing with multiple opportunities to make nice landscape photos.
4th - lunch is surprisingly good for the tour included event. The table wine is good and they will bring more if you drunk the bottle out. Don't choose the beans with entrails if you're not accustomed to such food as cooked pork stomach etc.
5th - wines in the winery shops are cheaper than in stores thus you may buy the nice souvenir. Good quality port is very expensive even there sometime few hundred euros. But they have very good Moscatels not too sweet and fortified as the port at the discount price sometimes.
The tour was great. Our tour guide, Sophia, was fantastic. She made us all feel very welcomed and comfortable. Her knowledge of the history of the Duoro Valley and ability to explain it in several languages was amazing. I would definitely recommend this tour. Ask for Sophia!!!
Joao, our tour guide, was amazing and intimately knowledgable about not only the wines produced in the Douro Valley, but also about the history and life of Portugal and it's peoples!!! He was completely accommodating and because of the service he provided we are currently planning a return trip to Porto in the warmer months and plan on using Joao once again!!!! This tour is highly recommended and you won't be disappointed! Safe travels........
Claudia, our tour guide for the entire day, was simply fantastic.
Knowledgeable and insightful she also had such a wonderful attitude because we had a group of Swiss travelers who were very trying.
Claudia is gem.
It was an excellent and very informative tour through the extremely beautiful Douro Valley. We were offered great wines and ports at two different estates. The driver/guide was excellent.
Not cheap--but worth every euro. Transport excellent, guide and driver excellent, meal excellent and wineries visited excellent. A full day with breathtaking scenery and real value for money. Do it!
