Konopiste Castle Half-Day Trip from Prague
From the comfort of your air-conditioned coach, leave Prague and travel approximately 25 miles (50 km) south to the 900-year-old town of Benesov for a half-day trip to Konopiste Castle.
Konopiste Castle’s Gothic fortification was transformed into a Baroque-style castle in the 17th century. The castle has been the residence of several historic princes and archdukes such as the successor of the Austrian throne, Franz Ferdinand d’Este, whose assassination in Sarajevo in 1914 served as a pretext to the start of World War I.
Tour the castle with your guide and admire the interior design and impressive collection of sculptures, paintings, tapestries and furniture. This famous castle is also known for being the castle featured in the movie The Illusionist. Explore the castle’s large outdoor park, whose garden area contributes to the estate’s enchanting atmosphere. Take a stroll through the rose garden and enjoy the relaxing and romantic atmosphere. After your half-day trip, your coach will return you to central Prague around 5pm.

This was a wonderful side trip into the countryside outside of Prague. I am so glad we did this and Marie, our tour guide, was wonderful and knowledgable. Once we were inside the castle, we had another tour guide and she was really good too. The castle is filled with interesting artifacts and a huge collection of guns and knives dating back to the Middle Ages. We enjoyed walking around the grounds of the castle after our tour. On our short walk to the castle, we saw the beautiful lake that is on the property and the views were breathtaking. I would highly recommend this tour as a fun way to see something different on a trip to Prague, and at just four hours, it is not a huge time commitment. We really enjoyed it!
