Read what other Viator.com travelers think about the Dominican Republic Mega Truck Safari. What they loved, what they liked and what they think could be improved, it's all here to help you make the most of your next trip.
If you want to learn about the culture in the Dominican this is THE tour for you. We absolutely loved getting out and seeing places that were beyond our resort! Andy was a great guide and answered all of our questions. And our driver was amazing -- I still have no idea how he navigated all those hills and steep declines.
The Mega Truck Safari tour was fantastic. The lunch provided was good but not a lot of variety of food choices were offered.
A fascinating, fun and educational day spent traveling through and stopping off at places surrounding the Punta Cana region in an open back truck. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire day and would recommend this trip to anyone. Youll learn about and sample the produce of the region. Everything from roasting coffee and cacao/cocoa, cigars, sugar cane, vanilla, pineapples, bananas, mangos, homemade chocolate and much more! Youll also have a chance to sample the famous mamajuana liquor and maybe some pineapple wine! With options to purchase some locally produced co-op things to take home. The plantation is incredible! It also had wonderfully clean WC facilities.
Youll also learn about the plantation owner, his family and see their prime example of a traditional Dominican house. We also travelled to a lodge high in the rainforest hills for a delicious home cooked Dominican lunch. Then back into the city of Higuey for a guided tour inside the large cathedral there -Basílica Catedral Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia!
For the last stop of the day we went to Macao beach, further west down the coast from Bavaro/Punta Cana. Here we did some body-boarding in the lovely blue surf, boards provided. All in all an amazing day, full of activities, things to see/do, learn about, sample and just take in a more authentic side of this wondrous country, its rich culture and lovely people. The travel duration isnt too much, as the whole day is hop on/off style and theres plenty to see en route. Refreshments, including soft drinks, beer and rum were served throughout the day by the truck driver and guide. This is the second time I have done this trip, it seems seasonally different each time. Last time we also visited a rural school, this time was during schools holidays. I would definitely do this trip again and recommend it to anyone new to, or a returning traveller to this region.
Fantastic tour, I would highly recommend this trip. No pressure to purchase anything or even tip. The guide and the driver were both great fun and very informative. The food was pretty good and drinks were offered regularly. A real MUST!
Thru trial and error, this is the only tour that worked well for our group because of our location Cap Cana Green Village. Very good tour. I Highly recommend it.
Great time! Alex and Miguel are the best. Very informative and lots of fun!
Our guide was the best, and we really enjoyed the village tour and just everything. This was the best
Very good tour. Luis was a good guide. Nice trip out into the countryside to see some real life.
LOVED this excursion!!! We learned so much about the Domincan Republic and had fun doing it. Danny Boy was our tour guide and was wonderful. I can't stop talking about this tour!
This tour was awesome. I will highly recommend this tour to any one. Our tour guide Alex was the best very informative about the Dominican culture. Lunch was also delicious beautiful view was spectacular...We are so looking forward to doing this tour again next year with our friends...
Great tour... the guide was awesome...do the full day tour.. it is worth the money
We had a excellent time. Tour guide was very informative and funny. Great experience.
It was extremely well done. My 86-year-old father chose this excursion and it was just what he and we wanted. Comfortable, well-organized and a fascinating insight into Dominican life. Glad we could contribute to the school we visited. Bring books, pencils, whatever a school might need. They will be most grateful.
Danna Boy was excellent! Danny was very well informed and great sense of humor. Made everyone feel at home. Louis The driver safe and friendly. I would go on another tour and my wife and I felt it was our best money spent on the trip. Great Tour, great staff and excellent equipment. Randy and Deana B.
This was a really nice tour of the jungle and what all the types of chocolate, coffee, and fruits and vegtables are grown there. Because you walk through a real jungle, I would never recommend that anyone wear bright clothing or shorts or flip flops (as some did), because the jungle contains mosquitos. My son, who wore bright clothing, shorts, and flip flops got bit 13 times. I guess he was trying to look "cool". I - on the other hand - have had experience in jungles, where I wore long jungle-type pants, a black long sleeved shirt, and real shoes and never got bit one time! I would rather be bite-free than "cool". Other than that, this tour is well worth the money and extremely educational. "Kenny" the tour guide really went out of his way to make everyone very comfortable and welcomed, plus he has a great sense of humor! Good stuff!!
This was the best excursion we took BY FAR. Kenny was awesome and made sure everyone had a great time. This excursion was a great way to see how the local people live and get a chance to sample the local crops and cuisine. We passed several other safari trucks during the day and none of them seemed to be having as much fun as our truck was. Make sure you ask for "Uncle Kenny"!
I really enjoyed our tour guide on this trip. They made sure we had everything we need. I learned lots of interesting information. It was a great full day.
We really enjoyed this tour. Luis, Victor and Jay really enjoyed their jobs which made everyone feel comfortable. It was an all day tour which included a lot of history, met local people, got to taste samples and the lunch was good.
We would recommend this tour but wear sneakers, sunscreen, bug spray plus the ride is bumpy.
Great tour of the local side of Punta Cana...We enjoyed the sites, gift bargains, and beach!
Great tour. Very enlightening as well and entertaining. Great Guide - Alex. In the description of the tour
it would be nice to really elaborate on the donations for the village. Enjoyed lunch and especially the hammocks afterwards.
It Was Great, Kenny was very informative and funny.
We really recommend this tour.
Carlos and Manuela Morales
the tour was well worth it. The guide was great. The only thing you should know is that it is a bumpy ride. The roads are not paved.
A good tour which gives a good overview of local domenican life. The visit to the plantation was very informative and great products to take home at local prices. Be warned a bit of pressure to buy throughout, beach beautiful and boogie boarding lots of fun. Much recommended x
