What You Can Expect

Milford Sound Cruise and Optional Coach Tour

Milford Sound Cruise and Optional Coach Tour

For the cruise-only option, step aboard your two-deck vessel at Milford Sound, nestled in the UNESCO-listed Fiordland National Park. Sip complimentary tea or coffee, heading outside or stepping indoors to take advantage of the all-weather glass-roof. The 100-passenger limit ensures prime viewing and a choice of seating.

Your 1.5-hour cruise of Milford Sound meanders past Mitre Peak and towering rock walls with waterfalls that plummet into the fiord from rainforest-clad cliffs. Prepare for the professional crew to point out basking New Zealand fur seals, playful dolphins and rare Fiordland penguins before your tour concludes on shore.

If you upgrade for an additional coach tour to Milford Sound, you’re picked up from your hotel for the 2-hour drive from Te Anau or 4-hour drive from Queenstown. Journey through the Fiordlands, listening to informative narration about the stunning scenery, and stop along the way for short hikes.

Discover the optical illusion of the Avenue of Disappearing Mountains, which seem to sink into the surrounding beech forest. View Hollyford Valley and the Darran Mountains before entering the Homer Tunnel, and snap photos of majestic Mt Tutoko, Fiordland National Park’s highest and most glaciated peak.

After the cruise, you’re taken back to your Queenstown or Te Anau hotel.

This was a long, all day tour, but well worth it. The day started out very cold and rainy, but it didn't detract from the beauty of the scenery. Shelly was a wonderful driver and tour guide, and our trip from Queenstown to Milford Sound was filled with great information and beautiful views. There were several stops for photos, as well as for food and souvenir shopping. Once we arrived at Milford Sound for the boat ride, the skies cleared and we had beautiful weather. It was absolutely breathtaking and definitely worth the time. On the bus ride back we watched a good movie based on a real guy from New Zealand. Since it was summer and got dark late, we were able to see more beautiful scenery on the return trip and watch the sun set. Don't miss this!

Must do in New Zealand, not just Queenstown. We lucked out with spectacular weather, so we got to make all the scenic stops along the way. We also opted for the small plane to fly us home. It was expensive but worth every cent. Stunning views! We especially loved seeing the sights from multiple angles. Book it!

It rained on the day we did this trip, however it did not spoil our day, in fact if anything it enhanced it, we even had dolphins hitch a ride on the bow wave of the boat, magical. The staff were great and nothing was too much trouble
