What You Can Expect

Best Milford Sound Full-Day Tour from Queenstown including Scenic Flight

Milford Sound Boat Cruise

Depart Queenstown and travel by luxury coach along the edge of Lake Wakatipu beneath the rugged Remarkables mountain range on the road to Te Anau, the "Gateway to Fiordland". After a brief morning tea break in Te Anau, enter the Fiordland National Park and prepare to be mesmerized by the grandeur of this region. Pass through the Eglington Valley and see ancient alpine beech forest, stunning waterfalls, and the famous Mirror Lakes. The coach will pause here for photo opportunities.

The tour then progresses through the Upper Hollyford Valley, past the stunning Christie Falls and enters the 1.2 kilometer (0.75 miles) long Homer Tunnel, drilled through the solid rock of a mountain. As you exit the Homer Tunnel, prepare yourself for the breathtaking impact of the Cleddau Valley and the descent into Milford Sound.

At Milford Sound, embark on a spectacular Milford Sound Scenic Cruise and set off to explore the region. Travel the length of the fiord and out to the Tasman Sea, gliding past glacier-scarred rock walls and waterfalls that tumble through valleys and crash into the sea far below.

After your cruise, join your light aircraft for a scenic flight from Milford Sound over the Southern Alps and back to Queenstown (weather permitting). Once in the air discover the sights of some of New Zealand's untouched country as your light plane soars up high and offers a birds eye view before landing in Queenstown, where you will be transferred to your Queenstown accommodation.

Outstanding! The flight back was so worth it!

We had a great time visiting Milford. Our tour guide was great. The only bad thing was the weather that day caused the flights out of Milford to be canceled, but the boat tour of the sound and the stops that we made on the way to Milford more than made up for this.

This involved an early start and a long coach drive, but the stunning views and cruise on Milford Sound made up for this. We had an excellent buffet lunch on board the Pride of Milford. Due to low clouds at Queenstown, we were unable to fly back and returned by coach, but this did not spoil the enjoyment of the day. The coach driver was excellent, stopping at various locations so that we could take photographs.

Awesome trip. The flight back was cancelled due to high winds, which was unseen BUT our excellent drive on the day sorted out for us to take the helicopter ride instead. This was a bonus as we landed on a glacier making this great trip even more memorable. Overall a must do and if you can take the flight option - DO!

Beautiful sights! It took forever to get there but was well worth the trip. Most beautiful place in New Zealand was Milford Sound. The plane or helicopter ride back is so worth it! You get great aerial views of the majestic beauty that is NZ! Also, you get home so much faster than that long bus ride. I would recommend!

Fantastic day.
Couch driver was a mine of information and pleny of stops
Great weather for the cruise, food on arrival prior to departing, well organised
Delayed scenic flight back, so had to hang around for a bit. Planes are small so photo oppertunities were somewhat limited, which if anything is a slight grumble.
That said, spectacular scenery throughout and we had a superb day

Weather hindered our flight, so I can't give a full review. However, stagecoach was fairly comfortable with nice windowing. Stops along the way were scenic and brisk. Cruise showed the highlights of the sound.
